Assistant Director of Nursing-Nurse Practice Development
to our hospital in Dublin.
Responsibilities
Provide operational and professional leadership to the Nursing Practice Development team, including the CNM 2, Clinical Placement Co-ordinator (CPC), and Student Allocation Liaison Officer (SALO), ensuring effective workforce support and staff development.
Support the Director of Nursing in the operational management of nursing services while promoting high standards of professional, evidence-based, and person-centred nursing care.
Lead nursing practice development initiatives, quality improvement projects, and innovation programmes to enhance patient outcomes and ensure compliance with national standards and accreditation requirements.
Provide strong clinical leadership, mentorship, supervision, and performance management to nursing staff, fostering professional growth, reflective practice, and continuous learning.
Oversee the planning, delivery, and evaluation of education and training programmes through blended learning methods, including workshops, online learning, clinical skills training, and competency assessments.
Support the implementation and optimisation of Electronic Health Records (EHR), act as an EHR Superuser liaison between nursing teams and digital services, and promote staff engagement with digital transformation initiatives.
Participate in quality assurance, clinical governance, accreditation, and audit processes, ensuring compliance with HIQA, JCI, NMBI, JAG, and organisational standards while implementing improvement plans where required.
Lead the monitoring and evaluation of Nursing Quality Care Metrics, analyse performance trends and risks, and utilise dashboards and reporting tools to drive accountability and service improvement.
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, committees, and external stakeholders to support integrated care delivery, organisational development, and change management initiatives.
Maintain professional competence in line with the NMBI Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, contribute to policy development and strategic planning, and actively support nursing advancement through research, conferences, and ongoing professional development.
Requirements
Be registered on the General Division of the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Hold a post-registration nursing qualification at Level 9 (Master's Degree) or higher on the NQAI framework, along with a recognised Teaching & Assessing qualification.
Demonstrate strong information technology and digital management skills, including experience supporting digital healthcare systems and electronic documentation.
Possess a minimum of 7 years post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting, including at least 3 years' management experience at Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM 2) level or above.
Have experience in clinical education, nursing practice development, quality improvement initiatives, or project management within healthcare environments.
Show evidence of continuous professional development, leadership training, and ongoing career progression relevant to nursing management and education.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of nursing policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, professional standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to acute healthcare settings.
Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives, including scope of practice and professional guidance frameworks.
Possess experience in clinical audit, standard setting, accreditation processes, nursing metrics, and the implementation of quality improvement strategies.
Exhibit strong leadership and management competencies, including analytical thinking, communication and interpersonal skills, staff development, strategic leadership, and the ability to lead on organisational vision, values, and change management initiatives.
