Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Kilkenny
Duration: Permanent
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm
Overview: This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer with expertise in water/wastewater systems. The engineer will produce detailed electrical and instrumentation designs for water and wastewater treatment plants, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to industry and internal standards.
Duties
Coordinate with Electrical Supply Board (ESB) and other stakeholders
Design and select instrumentation for water and wastewater processes
Evaluate client specifications from industrial and municipal clients
Prepare detailed electrical technical designs, submissions, and FAT documentation
Design electrical distribution and general services (lighting, fire & intruder alarms, containment systems)
Develop electrical panels – schematic review for MCC, LCP, MDB, etc.
Design automation hardware and system network architecture
Evaluate and select subcontractors and suppliers; prepare procurement specifications and quotation evaluations
Collaborate with design, contracts, control & automation departments
Maintain and update single‑line diagrams, panel schematics, and wiring diagrams
Attend FAT and deliver control philosophies
Work to Irish, European, Water Industry (WIMES), and IEC standards
Travel to site occasionally to support design activities
Provide electrical design expertise and mentor junior team members
Skills & Qualifications
Level 7 or higher in Electrical Engineering
10+ years in an electrical design role
Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment industry preferred
Highly organized, efficient, and self‑motivated
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong technical knowledge and team player
