Job DescriptionCarries out the System, Hospital, and Nursing Service mission, vision, values, and the overall strategic plan, clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management, and quality management in all areas of the hospital in the absence of leadership.
Assumes direct management and administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the Nursing Department and facility during their shift, including hiring, educating, evaluating, managing staff, and staff development.
Job ResponsibilitiesAssumes direct management and administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the Nursing Department and facility during their shift, including hiring, educating, evaluating, managing staff, and staff development.Carries out the System, Hospital, and Nursing Service mission, vision, values, and the overall strategic plan, clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management, and quality management in all areas of the hospital in the absence of leadership.Promotes the health system service standards and creates a patient-focused, caring environment while ensuring individual patient needs are met.Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with physician colleagues, nurses, and other healthcare team members.Develops, implements, directs, and evaluates nursing care staff and programs.
Counsels, directs, and instructs nursing staff in clinical and management concerns.Employs learning organization principles and techniques in all aspects of unit leadership.Monitors personnel, supply, and equipment considerations in collaboration with staff and support department directors.Monitors unit operational performance metrics including LOS, agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.Assesses unit activity, patient activity, and personnel resources to ensure appropriate staffing.Participates in activities to address deficiencies in patient care services.Models standards of professional practice (clinical, educational, and leadership) for colleagues and external customers.Promotes a "just culture" environment where staff feel safe to admit mistakes, report problems, and take ownership and accountability.Collaborates and communicates with internal colleagues and leadership to improve quality patient-centered care.Implements and reinforces action plans and goals that support staff inclusion, empowerment, and development.Maintains a broad understanding of the regulatory environment to ensure compliance with requirements.Performs related duties as required.
