Job Purpose

is seeking applications for the role of
Credit Control Officer
, on a
permanent, full-time basis.
The base location of the role is in Tipperary Town, with flexibility to travel and work throughout the branch network, as required.
Reporting to the Senior Credit Control Officer, the Credit Control Officer works as part of the credit control team.
The role supports the implementation of Tipperary Credit Union's Credit Control Policy and procedures, ensuring compliance and contributing to the effective management of accounts in arrears.
The primary focus of this position is to assist in monitoring overdue accounts, supporting members in arrears, and helping to minimise financial risk to the credit union.
The Credit Control Officer plays an important role in identifying and assessing credit control risks within the lending portfolio and supporting actions to mitigate these risks in line with policy and regulatory requirements.
This role requires a professional and confidential approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within the team to achieve credit control objectives.
Main Responsibilities
Work under the guidance of the Senior Credit Control Officer to implement Tipperary Credit Union's Credit Control Policy and procedures.
Monitor loan arrears and unpaid direct debits, initiating member contact in line with approved processes and policies.
Assist in negotiating repayment plans where necessary and liaise with debt collection agents as directed.
Prepare and maintain accurate member records, electronic files, and reports; complete administrative tasks and ad-hoc reporting as required.
Support the preparation of files for legal action, including forwarding documentation to solicitors and completing follow-up administration.
Assist in reviewing accounts in arrears, updating records, and supporting recommendations for write-offs in line with policy.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including the Consumer Protection Code and MARP.
Contribute to the preparation of monthly credit control reports for review by the Senior Credit Control Officer.
Undertake other credit control support duties as required by the Senior Credit Control Officer.
Avail of any credit union training provided, to maintain relevant competency and enable the fulfilment of the role, along with furthering the objectives of the credit union.
Comply with the Minimum Competency Code (MCC), responsible for maintaining the minimum continuous professional development (CPD) hours required for the role.
Ideally at least 1 year's experience in credit control or accounts receivable, with exposure to MARP or arrears resolution processes.
Preferably experience in a credit union or regulated financial services environment.
Confident making outbound calls, handling challenging conversations with empathy and fairness.
Strong administration, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
Numerical and analytical ability for reconciliations and payment plans.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), including negotiation skills.
Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently as a self-starter.
Problem-solving mindset; able to propose practical solutions.
Member-focused, aligned with Credit Union values.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Fluent in spoken and written English.
Collaborative and approachable, with strong teamwork skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable as travel between branches may be required.
Qualifications
QFA qualification or working towards the same.
