Hungry Hippo located 1 Courthouse street, cork city is a fast-paced American-style restaurant serving burgers, fries, and comfort food, and waiters are the **face** of the guest experience from greeting to payment. The role combines classic table service, upselling, and teamwork with the kitchen and bar to keep service smooth and friendly.
Key duties – before service
* Set up your station: wipe and set tables, check chairs, menus, sauces, and cutlery are clean and stocked.
* Check POS stations (napkins, condiments, glassware) are ready and topped up.
Key duties – during service
* Welcome and seat guests quickly with a friendly greeting, present menus, and offer first drinks.
* Take accurate orders (food, drinks, modifiers), repeat back key items, and input correctly into the POS.
* Run food and drinks promptly, check table satisfaction after first bites, and handle add-ons or issues professionally.
Sales and guest experience
* Explain signature items like the **super** triple smash burger and other specials to increase interest and sales.
* Suggest sides, desserts, and drinks (e.g., loaded fries, sharing platters, refills) to grow average spend without pressure.
* Maintain a positive, energetic attitude, keeping chat friendly but quick so tables turn efficiently.
Closing and hygiene duties
* Present and process bills accurately, handle cash/card payments, and thank guests with an invitation to return.
* Reset and clean tables quickly after each party; at the end of shift, help with FOH cleaning, restocking, and checklists.
* Follow all food safety, cleanliness, and uniform standards to keep Hungry Hippo clean, safe, and inspection-ready.
Experience requirement
* Minimum 1 year previous experience as a waiter/waitress in a busy restaurant or café, ideally in casual or American-style dining.
* Comfortable using POS systems, handling payments, and managing multiple tables during peak hours.
