As a Principal Platform Engineer in Limerick, Ireland you will join a diverse, passionate team dedicated to powering the world’s payments ecosystem.
Purpose
ACI Worldwide seeks a Principal Platform/Software Engineer to help shape and scale the platform capabilities behind our global payments technology. This senior technical leader will work at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, automation, and DevSecOps, influencing architecture, improving developer experience, and enabling secure, resilient systems that operate at scale.
Typical Day
Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of secure software build, release, and delivery pipelines that improve speed, consistency, and reliability across engineering teams.
Define and implement infrastructure‑as‑code practices using tools such as Pulumi, Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies to create scalable, maintainable platform foundations.
Drive DevSecOps capabilities that strengthen security, compliance, and operational resilience throughout the software development lifecycle.
Partner with development, operations, and security teams to embed automation, governance, and secure engineering practices into everyday platform workflows.
Provide technical leadership on infrastructure, deployment, reliability, and performance challenges, including root‑cause analysis and long‑term architectural improvements.
Contribute to platform strategy, engineering standards, and mentoring across teams to improve scalability, developer productivity, and service quality.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Significant professional experience in software engineering, including experience operating at a senior or principal level.
Strong experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and/or AWS.
Proven experience with infrastructure‑as‑code and configuration management tools such as Pulumi, Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
Hands‑on experience with DevSecOps practices, automation, and secure software delivery.
Strong problem‑solving skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and work effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience with templating and packaging tools such as Carvel, Jinja, and Helm.
Experience programming in Go; candidates with strong Java or Python backgrounds and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly will also be considered.
Experience working in payments, regulated environments, or other domains where security, resilience, and compliance are critical.
