Job Summary
Job Title: Clinical Nurse Manager / Unit Manager
Location: Nazareth House Mallow, Dromore, Mallow, Co. Cork
Reporting to: Director of Nursing
Job Purpose: To manage and coordinate the day‑to‑day care on the unit within agreed resources to ensure seamless service delivery and uphold best practice nursing care guided by Ballymote Community Nursing policies, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Guidance and the nursing code of conduct.
Main Responsibilities
* Manage the daily service, dealing with residents, families and staff.
* Ensure resident‑focused care standards, integrity and dignity.
* Provide clinical supervision of staff, carrying out bi‑monthly clinical supervision.
* Collaborate with the ADON on appraisal and performance reviews.
* Update care plans after incidents and supervise medication management.
* Guide nursing and care staff to include residents in decision‑making.
* Develop standards of care through innovation and initiative.
* Supervise and develop staff skills through delegation and leadership.
* Participate in operational policy development and implementation.
* Conduct nursing assessments using evidence‑based models.
* Identify nursing priorities and develop, implement and evaluate care plans.
* Collaborate with the Director of Nursing on optimal resident input.
* Ensure medication ordering, storing and administration follows guidelines.
* Engage in further education and in‑service training to keep competencies updated.
* Preceptor undergraduate students and mentor newly qualified staff nurses.
* Orient new staff to the organisation.
* Carry out other duties assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Clinical Knowledge
* Good clinical nursing practice awareness.

* Clinical assessment of comorbidities of gerontological nursing.
Professional Knowledge

* Knowledge of advances in nursing care and service management.
* Knowledge of nurse training programmes.
* Full understanding of HIQA standards applied to residential units for older persons.
* Responsible for completing notifiable incidents to HIQA.
* Knowledge of the Health Act (Care and Welfare of Residents in Designated Centres for Older People) and Regulations 2009.

Requirements
* Registered or due to be placed on the Register of Nurses maintained by An Bord Altranais / Nursing and Midwifery Board.
* Management qualification or willingness to undertake a management course that supports the role.
* Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development at an appropriate level.
* Effective communication at all levels.
* Genuine interest in working with the relevant client group.
* Satisfactory Garda Vetting.
