Overview of role
We are hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager II to join our team on a permanent full‑time contract. The CNM II has a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the Oncology Day Unit. The CNM II will coordinate and lead in the implementation and provision of quality care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Analyses workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs.
Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments.
Delegates appropriate tasks to personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards.
Maintains clear communications with the CNM III regarding unit needs and/or incidents.
Management and Organisation
Provide the necessary supervision, coordination and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure optimum delivery of care in the designated area through allocating work fairly and competently.
Manage communication and facilitate team building.
Provide staff leadership and motivation that fosters good working relations and performance.
Manage all resources efficiently and effectively, liaising with the Operations Manager on service provisions and areas of need.
Lead on practice development within the clinical area.
Lead and implement change.
Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures. Monitor as appropriate and lead proactive improvement.
Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.
Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.
Carry out the Engagement and Competency Process with all Nursing Staff.
Accreditation
Familiarize themselves with policies, procedures and guidelines directly related to their clinical care and area.
Assist in the review of policies, procedures and guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead/department manager.
General
Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence‑based, care‑planning approach.
Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
Be responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service‑user care by all staff in the designated area.
Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI.
Participate in teams, meetings and committees as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members.
Facilitate coordination, cooperation and liaison across healthcare teams.
Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment and care.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care through personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
Ensure that the care delivered by the team is based on standards formulated on evidence‑based practice and agreed through hospital policy.
Regularly evaluate and monitor patient care using the hospital’s quality systems to ensure delivery.
Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and make the ward environmentally welcoming and homely.
Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
Evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.
Ensure all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents.
There may be a requirement to work in other areas of the hospital in line with patient requirements as requested by the line manager or deputy.
Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required by the organisation.

Qualifications & Experience
Post Graduate or similar in Oncology.
Completed a management course.
Display evidence of continuing professional development.
Advanced Life Support qualification or commitment to undertake the same.
Experience
Experience of 4 years in the oncology setting with 2 years management experience required.
Be registered, or eligible for registration in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
Have a minimum of two years’ experience within a management position, and ideally three years’s experience within an oncology department.
Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures.
Have working knowledge of Microsoft packages.
Have experience in change management.
Play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.
Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge
Competent in IV/Oral chemotherapy administration.
Competent in accessing, maintaining and caring for CVAD devices.
Competent in IV cannulation and venepuncture.
Skills Essential to the Post
Excellent communication skills.
Proven track record in nursing management at a senior level.
Preceptorship/teaching and assessing of students and junior staff essential.
Experience in implementing service improvement and development.
Experience working with Electronic Health Records.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to problem‑solve and use initiative.
Ability to negotiate and resolve difficult clinical, operational and interpersonal situations.
Excellent interpersonal and team‑building skills.
Demonstrates practitioner competence and professionalism in carrying out duties and responsibilities.

Salary Scale
€ 62,077.17 – € 76,158.63 per annum based on a 37.5‑hour week.
