Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced engineering leader to drive operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across a multidisciplinary engineering organisation. This role is central to ensuring world‑class performance in a highly regulated, high‑reliability manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
Provide both strategic direction and hands‑on leadership to the engineering organisation, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Act as a core member of the Senior Management Team, contributing to organisational analysis, long‑term planning, and advancement initiatives.
Lead engineering activities across electronics, mechanical, and chemical disciplines to improve delivery performance, reduce costs, enhance compliance, and lower RMA rates.
Compliance & Quality
Ensure full compliance with MIL‑PRF‑19500, MIL‑STD‑750, DLA requirements, AS9100, ISO14001, and internal quality standards.
Uphold Microchip Ireland’s Quality Manual, government specifications, and all in‑house procedures.
Champion risk management and change‑management processes across engineering and operations.
Cross‑Functional Leadership & Governance
Serve as a key representative on Technical Review Board (TRB).
Materials Review Board (MRB).
6S Steering Committee.
Health & Safety Steering Committee.
Automation & Digitalisation projects.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, coach, and mentor the engineering team, building strong talent pipelines and ensuring high performance.
Promote a positive team culture focused on accountability, growth, and continuous improvement.
Technology, Automation & Innovation
Drive automation, digitalisation, and Industry 4.0 initiatives, integrating mechanical, electrical, and software principles.
Oversee equipment appraisal, investment, and standardisation to support safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Partner with global Microchip divisions and suppliers to share best practices and leverage advanced test and screening technologies.
Provide engineering support to Tactical Marketing, Planning, and other business units.
Manage engineering budgets, capital expenditure proposals, and ROI justifications.
Contribute to sustainability and ESG initiatives, focusing on energy efficiency and environmental impact reduction.
Requirements / Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (Level 8) in Electronics, Manufacturing, or a related Engineering discipline.
Extensive engineering experience within highly regulated industries (semiconductor, aerospace, medical device, etc.).
Proven leadership experience managing cross‑functional engineering teams.
Strong grounding in electronic and mechanical fundamentals, with a practical, hands‑on approach.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, adapt to change, and deliver under pressure.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP/MES/PLM systems.
Knowledge of ISO and AS standards.
Experience driving continuous improvement, performance management, and capability development within engineering teams.
