Meet the Team
We are responsible for the Playout and Distribution of RTÉ's broadcast and streaming Television and Radio outputs.
We are looking for an experienced Engineer with a passion for broadcast and internet streaming technologies to join our dedicated and multi-disciplined Broadcast Technology team.
Reporting to the Playout and Distribution Manager, you will be required to provide technical project services, 2nd/3rd line issue resolution and technical support within RTÉ's Playout and Distribution team.
About The role
The successful candidate will be expected to quickly assimilate into the team which has primary responsibility for building, managing, maintaining, and supporting the following infrastructure and systems:
Television Channel automation and monitoring/control systems
Transmission infrastructure for linear television playout
Linear and OTT video and audio encoding, transcoding and switching systems
Primary responsibilities of this role include:
Upgrading, maintaining and support of critical broadcast transmission systems
Execution of root cause analysis relating to system outages and/or performance degradation
Providing technical expertise and peer review of internal design proposals
Providing and maintaining progress and planning reports
Maintaining clear and comprehensive system documentation and technical drawings
Maintaining industry development awareness and inputting to design processes and strategy
About you:
The successful candidate will possess:
A third level Engineering or Information Technology qualification and/or have experience in a Broadcast Engineering discipline with a proven record of delivery
Experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, or 2nd/3rd-Line Support Engineer supporting Linux and Windows systems
Experience of working in a fast-paced, fluid environment while ensuring the uptime and availability of systems and services
Knowledge of IT architecture, application and system security, client/server and distributed computing concepts
Understanding of web, networking and media streaming protocols
Ability to configure, upgrade, install and troubleshoot network, server hardware and software
Working knowledge of log management and monitoring systems
Excellent communication, problem-solving and analytical skills
A passion for troubleshooting and debugging complex systems
Knowledge of the following will be a distinct advantage:
Broadcast automation and transmission systems
Content acquisition, manipulation, distribution and delivery technologies and business processes
This position will be located primarily in our Dublin Office with travel to regional sites and abroad required from time to time.
Any contract offer will be subject to the applicant's legal permission to work in Ireland.
This position will be offered on a full-time ongoing employment contract on the Broadcast Engineer Grade from €50,933 to €64,693 gross per annum.
Hours are currently office hours, but this may change subject to the organisation's requirements.
For system upgrade/implementations, planned weekend/out of office hours working will be required.
Formal out of hours callout arrangements may be put in place to meet business requirements.
