MBRYONICS is at the forefront of free space optical communications.
Our product portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions.
Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems.
The work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains.
As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated -
Structural Engineer
- to join our group.
What you'll do
Support structural, thermal, and optomechanical performance (STOP) analysis tasks for spaceborne optical communication systems.
Assist in developing and running analysis workflows to evaluate optical system performance under environmental loads such as thermal gradients, structural vibrations, and mechanical stresses.
Carry out finite element analysis (FEA) and thermal simulations using tools such as ANSYS, Simcenter 3D, or equivalent, with guidance from senior engineers.
Help integrate structural and thermal results into optical performance models (e.g., Zemax OpticStudio, SigFit).
Support environmental testing (vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum), including setup, data collection, and basic correlation to predictive models.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, analysis reports, and verification records in accordance with applicable standards.
Work with senior mechanical, optical, electrical, and systems engineers to implement design changes and resolve technical issues.
Learn and apply relevant space industry standards (ECSS, MIL-STD) for mechanical and thermal qualification.
Contribute to continuous improvement of analysis methods, modelling workflows, and cross-domain integration.
Who you are
2+ years of mechanical, aerospace, optical, or related engineering field.
B.Eng/M.Eng/Ph.D in Mechanical, Optical, Aerospace Engineering or relevant field
Basic understanding of FEA for structural analysis (modal, static, vibration) and thermal analysis (conductive, radiative, transient).
Some familiarity with optomechanical design principles and how mechanical/thermal loads can affect optical alignment.
Exposure to engineering simulation software (ANSYS, FEMAP, Simcenter 3D, or similar).
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a multidisciplinary environment.
Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and teamwork.
Desirable Requirements/Technical Skills/Education
Familiarity with SigFit or other STOP analysis tools.
Exposure to environmental testing such as TVAC, vibration, or mechanical shock.
Knowledge of materials used for structural and thermal stability (e.g., Invar, aluminium alloys, CFRP).
Awareness of spacecraft thermal control methods (e.g., coatings, MLI, interface design).
Interest in the space or photonics industry and willingness to develop skills in these areas.
