Analytical Scientist & Laboratory Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our state‑of‑the‑art laboratory in Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny, recognised as one of the most advanced laboratories in the global animal feed industry. This is a key role within a high‑performing technical team, involving extensive laboratory testing, data interpretation, and issue resolution, all underpinned by a strong focus on continuous improvement.
The primary purpose of the Analytical Scientist & Laboratory Manager role is to support and lead analytical activities relating to raw materials, feeds, and premixes. The successful candidate will play an active role across all laboratory processes, contribute to research and development initiatives, and support regulatory and quality objectives while managing the laboratory team.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform accurate and timely analysis of premixes, supplements, finished feeds, and raw materials
* Carry out routine calibrations and daily performance checks of laboratory equipment
* Develop, validate, and troubleshoot analytical methods
* Analyse, interpret, and report laboratory data clearly and effectively
* Maintain accurate, up-to‑date laboratory records in line with GLP standards
* Create, review, and update laboratory documentation, SOPs, and procedures
* Identify opportunities for laboratory improvements and recommend process enhancementsCommunicate results and findings to relevant stakeholders
* Actively contribute to internal research and development projects
* Support the Quality & Technical Manager with regulatory affairs, particularly in relation to controlled substances
* Assist in the development and implementation of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
* Manage the laboratory team
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
* BSc or MSc in Analytical Chemistry, Forensic Science, or a related scientific discipline
* Proven, relevant laboratory experience (essential)
* Ability and willingness to develop competence in Mass Spectrometry and LCMS
* Strong understanding of both theoretical and practical analytical science, with a particular focus on NIR and wet chemistry
* Excellent data analysis, problem‑solving, and fact‑finding skills
* High standard of documentation and strong written and verbal communication skills
* Experience working to GLP standards
* Proactive, highly motivated, and detail‑oriented approach
* Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, team‑based environment
* Demonstrated leadership qualities with the potential to guide and influence laboratory practices
