The MTU will be an exemplar of good practice, leading and defining what it means to be a Technological University. At its core it will be responsive to the needs of client and stakeholder groups across its broad range of activities. Munster Technological University (MTU) is a multi-campus technological university, contributing to the region through the provision of academic programmes that support student development and opportunities, education and research. MTU has an extensive and impressive regional footprint with six campuses across the South-West region in Cork and Kerry, and a student body of 18,000. MTU is seeking a person with suitable experience to fill the role of Senior Data Analyst (ETL) in our Enterprise Applications team within the IT Services department to strengthen the Universitys use of data and advanced analytics in decision-making. MTU is embarking on some major transformation projects over the coming years and needs to recruit suitable expertise to assist with this transformation. Location, level and relationship within management structure: This post can be based in either the Cork or Kerry Campus but may involve some travel between both campuses. The successful candidate will be reporting to Head of IT Applications MTU Cork campus. The post holder will work closely within a project structure under the Corporate Services office working with other analysts on the team and colleagues in other areas like Academic Faculties, the Registrars Office, Finance and Operations and with other internal stakeholders. Duties and responsibilities of the position: Design, build, and maintain interactive reports that provide timely, accurate information to operational teams, non-technical users, senior leaders and executive with clear, user-focused visualisations that enable self-service analytics while maintaining appropriate governance. Conduct exploratory, statistical, and trend analyses to address strategic and operational questions and translate complex analytical findings into concise narratives and recommendations. Write and optimise database queries (e.g. SQL) to extract, transform, and analyse data from multiple enterprise systems, where required. Oversee the flow of data between systems to ensure information is collected, prepared, and made available in a consistent and reliable way for reporting and analysis. Design and maintain data integration processes that bring together information from multiple sources into a single, trusted view used across the organisation. Work with large, complex datasets spanning areas such as student lifecycle, research performance, finance, and human resources etc. Collaborate with IT Services and systems teams to improve data pipelines, structures, and performance and any required integrations. Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into dependable data flows that support operational and strategic goals. Work with the office of corporate affairs, finance and operations, academic faculties and professional services to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose analytics solutions. Contribute to the development and maintenance of common metrics, definitions, and performance frameworks. Support data quality improvement initiatives and promote best practice in data governance. Ensure compliance with data protection, privacy, and ethical standards. Support University-wide priorities such as student success, equality and inclusion, research impact, financial sustainability, and regulatory reporting. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and impact through enhanced use of data and analytics. Create detailed documentation and facilitate training of end-users where necessary on using the developed platform to ensure successful adoption of new solutions. Assist in project planning, execution, and monitoring to ensure successful delivery of the solution(s) Essential Criteria for the role: Bachelors degree in business administration, Data Analytics/Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. AND At least 5 years relevant work experience AND Significant experience in Business Intelligence (BI), Data Analytics, and/or building/maintaining Data Warehouse(s) / Data Lake(s), and ETL Transformations in a large / complex organisation. Desirable Qualifications/Experience: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience working in higher education, public sector, or research-intensive environments Strong experience with advanced analytics / visualisation tools or data analytics platforms/technologies such as Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Fabric or equivalent. Experience applying AI or machine learning techniques to analytics use cases, such as predictive modelling, classification, natural language processing, or intelligent automation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex analysis clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Strong attention to data quality and accuracy Proven ability to write and maintain database queries / scripts, particularly using SQL, to access and analyse complex datasets. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience using data analysis tools and languages (e.g., Excel, Python, R, or similar) Terms of the Appointment: Salary Scale: Grade VII: €60,611 - €63,825 per annum (points 1 to 3) Fixed-term whole-time to 31st December 2028, 35 hours per week.
