The Role
We are seeking to appoint a new Board Member with significant Finance and Audit experience to join our voluntary Board of Directors. The successful candidate will also serve on our Finance & Audit Committee, providing essential financial oversight, supporting our executive team in ensuring strong financial governance, and helping shape the theatre’s strategic financial direction.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend and actively contribute to quarterly Board meetings (in person or online).
* Serve on the Finance & Audit Committee and provide oversight of financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes.
* Ensure compliance with statutory obligations by contributing to Board and Committee’s oversight of audit, financial reporting, and risk management practices.
* Support the Board in interpreting financial reports and forecasts to inform strategic decisions.
* Offer advice and insight on sustainable financial practices and revenue diversification.
* Actively champion The Civic Theatre’s mission to provide access to the arts for all, and uphold its values of inclusion, creativity, community, excellence, and sustainability.
Essential Experience & Skills
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or significant experience in financial management.
* Experience in audit, financial controls, or risk oversight in the private, public, or nonprofit sector.
* Understanding of good governance principles and financial compliance.
* Strategic thinking, with the ability to balance short-term operational needs and long-term sustainability.
* Ability to commit time to prepare for and attend meetings, and to engage between meetings as required.
Desirable Attributes
* Previous experience on a Board or Committee (not essential).
* Interest in the arts and community engagement.
* A clear understanding of the Charities Governance Code is essential, and all directors must be familiar with their duties under the Code and the Companies Act 2014
Commitment
* Board meetings: 4 per year
* Finance & Audit Committee meetings: 2 per year
* Occasional ad hoc meetings or events as appropriate
