Network Engineering Manager at The Citco Group Limited
Location: Ballytrasna, County Cork, Ireland (as listed in the description). This role focuses on both traditional on-prem networking and cloud networking, including SD-WAN, with leadership responsibilities for a globally distributed team in Operations and Support. The role reports to the SVP of Infrastructure Services – Network and collaborates with IT architects, engineering groups, system admins, application support, and development teams worldwide.
Responsibilities
Oversee routine maintenance activities, such as patching network devices, software upgrades, and tech refreshes.
Maintain a high level of customer service to internal and external clients.
Proactive and reactive monitoring of the global Citco network (WAN, LAN at data centers and remote offices, and cloud networks).
Drive operational excellence, continuous improvement, and process optimization.
Demonstrate strong traditional networking and cloud networking experience; ensure understanding of network security concepts and practices.
Serve as escalation point for complex troubleshooting; act as a trusted resource for unique or complex problems.
Contribute to and review team processes, policies, and configuration standards.
Develop Infrastructure as Code practices with a focus on networking.
Build cloud infrastructure topology and environments using automation (e.g., AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM templates, pipelines).
Maintain strong familiarity with SD-WAN.
Elevate the skills of the Network Team in cloud networking.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the Network Operations Team to align priorities with business needs.
Level 2 and Level 3 support of the network infrastructure.
Monitor performance of on-prem and cloud networks and resolve issues before they impact users.
Capacity management and planning for the network infrastructure.
Manage Priority One incidents to closure.
Mentor the team to enhance technical and soft skills and support professional growth.
Ongoing and annual appraisal of subordinate staff.
Present budget requirements and justify capital and operational expenditure.
Make sound business and client-centric decisions; demonstrate strong troubleshooting capabilities.
Travel up to several times per year.
Adhere to established processes, procedures, and policies.
Maintain on-call rotation and participate in on-call duties.
Stay informed on new developments and products in the technology area and propose appropriate implementations.
About You
Experienced and energetic contributor capable of building customer relationships while driving alignment and strategy in the Network IT group. Ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
Experience And Technical Skills
Must-haves: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in traditional enterprise networking (Cisco switches/routers, Meraki, Nexus, etc.), SD-WAN (e.g., VMware Velocloud), and cloud fundamentals (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle OCI) with emphasis on networking.
Experience automating and scripting network management with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, JFrog, or other network automation tools.
Scripting and programming skills (JSON, YAML, Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.).
Familiarity with Palo Alto firewalls (Panorama) and F5 BigIP load balancers.
Network monitoring systems (e.g., Cacti, SolarWinds, MRTG).
Minimum 15 years of networking experience; minimum 5 years in network management.
Experience analyzing packet captures (Wireshark) and NetFlow with SolarWinds or similar.
Education: Bachelor's degree or technical qualification relevant to the position.
Desirable: SolarWinds experience; continuous improvement mindset; broad infrastructure knowledge (compute, storage, middleware, VDI, applications); strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to work across functions and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; customer orientation and strategic thinking.
Lead proof-of-concept initiatives, document results, design final solutions and implementation.
Keep informed on new networking technologies and propose implementations as appropriate.
