Location
Dun Laoghaire – non-office based position (please read below before applying).
Work Schedule and Hours
Part-time, 15 hours per week.
Flexible schedule based on member needs; may include daytime, evening, weekend and occasional holiday shifts.
Specific hours and days will be outlined in the service agreement.
Purpose of the Role
Provide person-centered support to enable a person with a disability to live as independently as possible.
Tasks may include personal care, domestic assistance, social and educational support, companionship, and transportation tailored to the individual's needs as outlined in their service agreement.
Key Relationships
Collaboration with the member, their family, fellow assistants (if applicable), and relevant Irish Wheelchair Association staff, including service coordinators and administrative teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate the member's participation in social, educational and community activities.
Support the member during medical appointments, meetings and social events.
Drive the member's vehicle (automatic).
Participate in mandatory IWA training including manual handling and safeguarding.
Assist with personal care tasks – showering, grooming, dressing, toileting and transfers using appropriate equipment (e.g., hoist).
Be available for occasional additional hours to cover shifts during holidays, sick leave or unforeseen circumstances.
Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion in all interactions with the individual and their family.
Adhere to all organisational policies and participate in required training, such as manual handling, safeguarding, and health and safety protocols.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
Full, clean driver's licence (required).
Willingness and ability to drive an accessible, automatic vehicle.
Reliable, flexible and committed to delivering high-quality support.
Fluency in English (spoken and written).
Legal right to work in Ireland.
Willingness to undergo Garda vetting and complete mandatory training before commencing work.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
QQI/FETAC Level 5 in Community & Health Services, Health Service Skills or Healthcare Support or equivalent.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Basic knowledge of technology to assist with daily tasks.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and schedules.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
Remuneration and Benefits
Starting rate: €***** – €***** per hour (depending on experience).
Premium rates for antisocial hours, Sundays and public holidays.
Mileage reimbursement for inter-member travel.
Sick pay scheme, maternity/paternity pay and access to further education support.
Additional benefits include a Bike to Work scheme, PRSA pension and Employee Assistance Service.
The current pay scale is subject to a 9.25 % pay increase over the next 2 years ***** up to October ****), aligning with the recent WRC agreement aimed at enhancing pay adjustments within Section 39 organisations.
