To support our continued expansion, we are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our team to support our growth, and assist with expanding our business in the LV switchgear market.
We are seeking an Electrical Switchgear Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our manufacturing workshop. This senior management role balances technical expertise with leadership and business acumen to ensure reliable, efficient, and compliant processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Operations: Manage the day-to-day operations of our electrical manufacturing workshop in the production of low voltage switchgear which includes assembly of steel enclosures, circuit breakers, relays, and control panels. This includes further developing and implementing comprehensive SOP's, and managing expected KPI's.
* Safety & Compliance: Ensure all operations strictly adhere to industry safety standards and regulations. This involves promoting a strong safety culture, conducting regular inspections, and implementing emergency response plans.
* Project Management: Oversee the manufacturing, commissioning, testing, and / or modification of new or retrofit switchgear, ensuring projects are completed to specifications, on schedule, and within budget.
* Team Leadership & Management: Train, supervise, and mentor our Production Manager, team of electricians, technicians, apprentices and other personnel. This includes setting performance expectations, fostering a collaborative work environment, and resolving potential disputes. Hiring support staff when required.
* Budgeting & Financial Management: Develop and manage the operational budget, monitor expenditures, control costs, and analyze financial data with our Financial Controller to improve profitability and efficiency.
* Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical direction to Production Team, co-ordinating with our Design Manager to support and resolve complex electrical issues and system malfunctions efficiently.
* Inventory & Supply Chain Management: Co-ordinate with our Storeman to manage the procurement and inventory of necessary materials, parts, and equipment, ensuring optimal stock levels.
* Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, material used, and operational data. Prepare and present reports on performance, costs, and safety metrics to senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills
* Education: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field is typically required, though extensive directly applicable experience (e.g., a number of years in a relevant setting) may be substituted.
* Experience: A minimum of five to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in electrical manufacturing, maintenance, and repair work, including significant supervisory or management experience.
* Technical Knowledge: Strong technical expertise in LV (low voltage) switchgear, power generation, distribution systems, protection relays, and control systems.
* Licenses & Certifications: An Electricial Qualification or relevant professional certifications may be required or preferred.
* Skills:
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
* Proficiency in project management and business planning software.
* Ability to interpret and apply complex wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
* Financial acumen for budget management and cost control
