Position Overview On behalf of our client, we are looking for an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join an esteemed nursing home in Dublin. This is an ideal role for an experienced nursing leader who is passionate about person-centred care and ready to step into a senior management position. Job Purpose: To oversee and maintain the care of residents within the Nursing Home in the absence of the Home Manager. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Nursing Home, ensuring that all company policies, procedures, and legal requirements are adhered to within the defined timescales. Main Responsibilities Care: Ensure that all staff members contribute to the efficient running of the Nursing Home and create an atmosphere that prioritizes the best interests of residents. Interact with residents to ensure their healthcare needs are being met, resolving any issues where appropriate. Liaise with the District Nurse regarding residents health needs. Report any ill-health among residents and request GP or professional visits as necessary. Ensure meals are of sufficient quantity, good quality, and meet residents dietary needs. Undertake general nursing work and personal care as required. Administer prescribed medicines and maintain records in line with NMBI and company guidelines. Assist the Home Manager with auditing Care Plan documentation to ensure best practices. Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with residents' personal and financial affairs, and avoid any abuse of the privileged relationship that exists. Establish and maintain relationships with residents based on respect, dignity, and independence. Provide on-call cover for holidays and every alternate weekend (at maximum), in collaboration with the Director of Nursing. Communication: Maintain effective communication with the Home Manager. In the absence of the Home Manager, maintain effective communication with residents, relatives, staff, Managing Director, and any other concerned parties. Report incidents/accidents and provide updates on any resident health concerns to the Home Manager. Supervise GP visits and establish strong relationships between the GPs, healthcare professionals, and the Nursing Home. Ensure a clear and concise handover report is provided to staff members. Participate in staff and client meetings as required. Budgetary / Financial Control: Manage, monitor, and maintain the budget agreed upon by the Home Manager and Divisional Office. Take corrective action in conjunction with the Divisional Management when required, especially in the absence of the Home Manager. Ensure efficient use of resources and commodities in the Nursing Home. Human Resources (HR): Adhere to and implement all HR policies and procedures. In the absence of the Home Manager, assist with staff recruitment, advertise vacancies, and interview new staff with the Home Manager as needed. Maintain records of working hours and control sickness absence in line with company policies. Ensure all staff are aware of Nursing Home policies and procedures. In the absence of the Home Manager, manage the disciplinary and grievance processes (in collaboration with the Director of HR). Assist with formal supervision and appraisal of staff members, and ensure high performance standards. Organize staff schedules to ensure adequate staff cover at all times. Marketing: Actively market the Nursing Home and promote a positive personal and professional profile within the local community. In collaboration with the Company Management Team, fill any client vacancies by liaising with HSE and selecting suitable residents. Ensure the Nursing Home is presented in an attractive, odor-free, and well-maintained manner at all times. Ensure that a viewing room is always available and properly presented. Training & Development: Supervise and instruct junior and new staff in all aspects of their work, providing guidance and assistance as needed. Continuously improve professional knowledge and competence by attending mandatory training courses, both on and off-site. Health & Safety: Report any infectious illnesses or accidents immediately to the Home Manager. Ensure the implementation of the Nursing Homes Health & Safety policy, Emergency, and Fire procedures. In the absence of the Home Manager, act as Chief Fire Officer for the Nursing Home, following health and safety guidelines. Report faulty appliances or equipment and promote safe working practices within the Nursing Home. General: Adhere to all relevant NMBI guidelines and regulations. Maintain stock levels and reorder supplies as necessary. Ensure all required log books and records are up-to-date for HIQA inspections and company documentation. Be available for emergency on-call duties and assist with shifts when needed. Keep all information gained during work confidential. Assist in accessing funding for residents from government or outside agencies. Maintain the security of the Nursing Home at all times. Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications Required: Current NMBI Registration. Previous management/supervisory experience in a healthcare setting. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels. A proven team player with the ability to collaborate across departments. A genuine interest in working with elderly residents and delivering high-quality care. Certification of Garda Vetting Unit clearance. Care for the Elderly experience/qualification is highly desirable. Why Apply?
