Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in Older Person/ Rehabilitation - Blarney Rehabilitation Unit and any buildings within the Mercy University complexPrincipal Duties and ResponsibilitiesBe responsible for the delivery of Occupational Therapy services to a complex caseload commensurate with an advanced specialist in the field of Older Person Rehabilitation Services.Provide leadership, direction and support and to ensure the continuing development of the Occupational Therapy staff and students in the Older Person Rehabilitation Service.Demonstrate a commitment to research and evidence-based practice, identifying and contributing to research, clinical evaluation and audit opportunities.The Clinical Specialist appointed will possess skills and expertise greater than those expected of a Senior Grade Therapist. These would include research and development work on topics and techniques related to Older Person Rehabilitation Services.Be responsible for the development and maintenance of standards of Occupational Therapy practice of self and staff appointed to Older Person Rehabilitation Services.Be responsible for managing their own caseload and for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users according to service standards.Participate in the integrated discharge planning process in line with the HSE Code of Practice.Be responsible for the day-to-day running of Occupational Therapy Older Person Rehabilitation Services by supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work and promoting positive staff morale and team working in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager.In conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager, lead service planning and development by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users.Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other healthcare personnel in the team.Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries are in accordance with local service and professional standards.Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, treatment / intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.Participate in teams as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc. as designated by Occupational Therapist Manager.Ensure that staff in the designated service area(s) arrange and carry out duties in a timely manner, within settings appropriate to service user's needs, and in line with local policy/guidelines.Eligibility CriteriaHold an Occupational Therapy qualification recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.Have five years full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experience of which four years full time (or equivalent) must be consecutive in the specialty.Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence.Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses.Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.Candidates must demonstrate achievement in ALL of the following areas:(i) Clinical audit(ii) Quality improvement initiatives(iii) Practice development(iv) Teaching(v) ResearchFull Job Spec is available on requestClosing Date: 1pm on Monday 27th October 2025MUH reserves the right to create a panel for this post from which permanent, fixed term and specified purpose vacancies of a full or part time duration may be filled.
