Job Opportunity
As a Senior Anaesthetist, you will be a key member of our department at this university hospital. Your responsibilities will include:
* Providing high-quality anaesthetic care for both elective and emergency surgeries, including:
Pre-operative assessment
Intra-operative management
Post-operative care
* Mentoring junior doctors, nurses, and anaesthesia technicians
* Participating in on-call rotas and responding to emergency cases
* Collaborating with surgical teams and other departments
* Contributing to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
* Engaging in professional development, research, and teaching activities
The region covers one third of the land mass of Ireland, providing healthcare to a population of 830,000 and employing over 20,000 staff.
This role is an initial short-term contract of 12 months, potentially extendable.
Department Focus
* We offer comprehensive perioperative care: pre-op assessment, intra-op management (general/regional anaesthesia), post-op care, ICU, pain medicine, and resuscitation .
* We have a strong focus on regional anaesthesia, with dedicated block bay facilities performing ~2,000 nerve blocks per year.
* We play an integral role in teaching, serving medical students, interns, trainees, and nurses (ICU, peri-op, emergency care)
* We have a rich schedule of educational and clinical governance activities: weekly lectures, morbidity & mortality reviews, ICU meetings, research forums, journal clubs
* We are recognised as a regional training centre for both basic and specialist registrar programmes, under Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland accreditation

Essential Criteria
* Registration on the Irish Medical Council's Specialist Division in Anaesthesiology
* Completion of Specialist Training (CCT or equivalent) in Anaesthesiology
* Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
* Experience in regional anesthesia, pain management, or intensive care is advantageous
