ESB Archives are responsible for managing and preserving the history and heritage of the Electricity Supply Board. ESB Archives operate from a new purpose-built archive in Finglas, Dublin 11. The Professional Archivist will work as part of a small team of archivists led by ESB's Archives & Heritage Manager. The Professional Archivist will primarily be responsible for the care and maintenance of the records held by ESB. The individual in this role will have a postgraduate qualification in Archives Management, at least one year of experience working in the cultural heritage sector, and knowledge of the principles of cataloguing and arrangement, preservation of collections, and assisting researchers with research queries. Key Responsibilities Ensure the accessioning and preservation of collections, including born digital collections, are carried out to professional standards Arrange, rehouse and catalogue archives to a sufficient level according to accepted national and international standards and ESB Archives guidelines and procedures, to ensure appropriate access Facilitate the digitisation of ESB records in accordance with current best practice and procedures Provide access to archives & respond to requests for advice/assistance from ESB business units, community organizations and individuals Contribute to archival exhibitions and traditional outreach programmes, including building tours and specialised talks Assist in research and contribute content to the ESB Archives website and social media platforms. Liaise with various stakeholders, business units and partners in relation to specific requests and projects Be committed to health and safety and ensure familiarity with ESB's safety policies. Any other duties deemed appropriate to support the Archives and Heritage unit Experience and Qualifications Essential Post-graduate qualification in records or archives management Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an archive or special collections setting, or similar pre-qualification experience IT essential skills such as file management and the use of standard IT office applications; Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive Hands-on experience scanning documents and photographs Experience providing excellent customer service Understanding of metadata standards and systems used for archival cataloguing Practiced in giving presentations and/or speaking at events Self-motivated, flexible and capable of working on own initiatives, demonstrating high levels of commitment and flexibility while also working well as part of a team Desirable Experience working in a business archive, or knowledge of the unique ways that business archives function Experience in publishing web content, digital image editing and processing, and an understanding of web accessibility Knowledge of Adlib/Axiell cataloguing software General understanding of digital preservation principles and their applications Good knowledge of modern Irish history Personal membership in Archives and Records Association of UK and Ireland Clean driver's license Location The role is based at our purpose-built archive building in St. Margaret's Road, Finglas, Dublin 11 but may require travel to other locations occasionally.
