About your role:
Reporting to the Director of Trading, the Trading Operational Manager is a key leadership role within the Trading function responsible for the efficient management & transportation of gas across multiple transportation regimes in ROI, NI, and UK, maximising value & controlling risk. The individual also plays a key role interfacing with large users across the industry, ensuring our customers can optimise their capacity requirements appropriately, while internally ensuring the run costs of our own assets & portfolio are understood and optimised. This position requires a deep understanding of the energy markets, risk management, and the regulatory landscape. The ideal candidate will possess excellent stakeholder management skills with an analytical and strategic mindset. Leading an established 365-day operations team, you will provide strong leadership, further developing the team, and act as an important part of the Trading leadership team, contributing to the strategic goals of the organization.
Key responsibilities will include planning and optimizing gas capacity value for our portfolio and assets, managing key internal and external relationships, and ensuring commercial contracts are operational and embedded into operational procedures. You will lead an operations desk of 6 operators, with a 365-day shift process, 20 hours a day, sometimes requiring out-of-hours support. You will manage rostering and implement best-in-class strategies and controls.
Additionally, you will forecast transmission costs, ensuring cross-functional alignment and tariffs that are appropriately costed. You will stay updated on regulatory changes, attending industry forums and demonstrating a deep understanding of the gas market and Bord Gáis Energy’s business. Establishing and maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders and collaborating with internal departments to support trading activities are also essential.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
* Strong knowledge of energy markets
* Excellent operational and process improvement mindset
* Proficiency in trading platforms and risk management systems.
* Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data.
* Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing energy trading.
* Strong leadership and team management abilities.
* Effective communication and presentation skills.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
