Overview of Senior Staff Engineer Role


Synopsis

The Senior Staff Engineer is a pivotal technical leader tasked with developing, optimizing, and overseeing manufacturing processes for medical implants.

This role demands strong collaboration across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams to develop new technologies, resolve complex issues, and implement best practices.

A key aspect of this position involves scaling up new processes while ensuring compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, and other relevant medical device regulations.


About the Ideal Candidate

Candidates should have substantial experience in thermal spray coatings or related deposition technologies, or materials science experience.

A proven track record of implementing robust manufacturing solutions in a regulated industry is essential.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

1. Developing a detailed understanding of best practices in product/process performance within the Medical Devices industry
2. Establishing a support network of key divisional/corporate leaders, academic partners, and suppliers to enhance understanding of product manufacture and quality
3. Driving high levels of employee engagement through effective support structures for engineers
4. Developing technical solutions to complex problems requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors
5. Designing system-level strategies
6. Leading design, development, testing, and refinement of systems, sub-systems, and components
7. Recommending procedural changes
8. Serving as a technical advisor to engineering personnel


Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

1. Level 8 Honours Degree in an Engineering discipline
2. 6+ years manufacturing experience with increasing responsibility
3. Desired: Advanced Degree (Masters, Black Belt, or PhD)
4. Experience in thermal spray coatings or related deposition technologies, or materials science
5. Excellent communication and influencing skills
6. Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a process improvement orientation
8. Willingness to source, investigate, and implement technological and automation advances
9. Confident decision-maker with proven technical leadership abilities
