Vhi H&W have an appointed 3rd party provider for laboratory services across supporting:
(a) Supply and Delivery of Outsourced Medical Laboratory Tests
(b) Reporting of medical laboratory tests What will you do: Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer, the Chief Medical Scientist will be responsible for leading the clinical and technical interface between Vhi Health & Wellbeing and external laboratory providers, ensuring outsourced lab services meet the highest clinical, regulatory, and quality standards while driving service optimization and seamless workflows, overseeing internal processes, supporting clinical teams with expert advice, and champion innovation in laboratory services, including POCT implementation.
Be the key liaison for quality, compliance, and data integrity, ensuring patient care remains at the heart of everything we do.
What you need to be successful Education & Experience The suitable candidate should have a multidisciplinary background in order to provide the necessary advice and oversight for all third party delivered laboratory services.
You will need to demonstrate the ability to effectively plan and manage resources, ensuring value for money and maximum benefit for the organisation within a model of person-centred care, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Candidates for appointment must:
(i) Be registered on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
OR
(ii) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act ****, (see note 1 below*), must submit proof of application for registration with the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91 applicant was received by the 30th March ****.
AND
(iii) Possess one of the following NFQ Level 9 post graduate qualifications or equivalent qualification at minimum Level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine; MSc Clinical Laboratory Science, Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).
MSc Clinical Chemistry, University of Dublin, Trinity College (TCD).
MSc Biomedical Science, University of Ulster (UU) MSc Biomedical Science, Cork Institute of Technology/University College Cork.
MSc Molecular Pathology, Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT)/University of Dublin, Trinity College (TCD).
OR
(iv) An equivalent qualification at minimum Level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM).
OR
(v) Possess Fellowship of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine awarded before July ****.
OR
(vi) Have attained the Fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical Science (Awarded prior to ****).
AND
(vii) Possess at least seven years full time clinical experience (or an aggregate of seven years' full time clinical experience) as a medical scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory since qualifying as a medical scientist, two years of which were spent in a promotional post (e.g Medical Scientist, Senior or Medical Scientist, Specialist).
AND
(viii) Demonstrate evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
AND
(b) Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU And Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the Vhi by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
Interpersonal skills Demonstrate ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Adapts management style to suit the demands of the situation and the people involved.
