The successful candidate will be afforded all necessary training and development in line with the role.Job ObjectivesWe are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing (with a specialism in Psychiatry) to join our team at Nua Healthcare and take a lead role in providing high quality, biopsychosocial informed care for a cohort of patients with mental disorder within our mental health service.Main DutiesTo ensure ICPs are up to date and that services are being always delivered to the highest possible quality and safety standards.To be familiar with and adhere to the local safety statement (risk assessments and standard operating procedures) always.To be familiar with and adhere to all company policies and procedures.To use company IT systems as instructed and to never share passwords or disclose company or personal data in violation of GDPR.To act responsibly at all times and to cooperate with regulators in the best interests of the service and the people who use them.To maintain the highest level of infection control standards as directed by policy and national guidance.To work according to the NMBI Code of Professional Conduct and relevant guidelines; assess care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care; support the nursing team in this role; develop, implement, and evaluate individual care plans with patients, carers, and other professionals.Clinical ResponsibilitiesProvide a nursing assessment of patients admitted to the service.Participate in ward rounds and multi-professional meetings; support the nursing team in this role.Ensure high standards of nursing in clinical procedures and treatments including medicines management.Maintain high standards of nursing care during procedures through supervision and instruction.Ensure patients’ rights are maintained under the Mental Health Act.Assist the Director of Nursing to ensure staff are aware of Individual Care Plans and objectives.Complete supervision and appraisals of junior staff members.Take charge of the Centre in the absence of the Director of Nursing.Exercise leadership with the Director of Nursing to ensure organisation, communication, and MDT collaboration.Inform the Director of Nursing of professional issues as necessary in line with NMBI codes.Participate in planning for Mental Health Commission visits and inspections.Lead coordination with outside agencies to ensure effective communication across services.The above Job Specification is not intended to be a comprehensive list.QualificationsRegistered on, or eligible to be on, the Psychiatric Division of the NMBI.Post-registration qualification in healthcare management (QQI Level 8 or higher) or equivalent may be advantageous, or a contractual undertaking to acquire within 3 years from appointment date.KnowledgeKnowledge of Health Act 2007, Mental Health Act 2001 and Mental Health Amendment Act 2018, the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, and related standards and codes of practice.ExperienceMinimum 5+ years post-qualification Psychiatric nursing experience.Minimum 3+ years relevant management experience in psychiatric nursing.SkillsAbility to empathise with and understand the needs of others.Strong commitment to professional excellence.Excellent organisational, written and IT skills.Willingness to work in a multi-departmental team and to learn.Reliable, flexible, and dedicated approach to work.
