The right candidate for this role will strive to enhance the lives of the individuals by promoting their community inclusion and equal citizenship.Purpose of Role:to provide a range of services to individuals with low level intellectual disabilities. The primary purpose of the role is to support our clients to maintain their own tenancy and independence in the community.Support Workers / Social Care Workers will empower the individuals being supported to live self-determined lives in socially inclusive communities.Support Workers / Social Care Workers will work in collaboration with the support team, leadership team and all other stakeholders to ensure people have a safe and effective service. OR a sufficiently relevant qualification in Social Care or a related field along with registration as a Social Care Worker with CORU by Nov 2025.Full clean driver's license valid for driving in IrelandComfortable working with technology required for the role; Email, AppsAbility to maintain records and reports in relation to service and client activityAn understanding of the responsibilities of support workers under Safeguarding guidelinesThe following will be seen as an advantage:One year of experience in a Healthcare or Social Care setting.Experience working in a Supported Living EnvironmentAn understanding of the requirements of National Standards and Regulations such as HIQACandidate Skills / ExperienceThe ability to support the client group in a respectful way, always with the client's goals and needs at the centre of every task.Ability to work independently and show initiativeProactive approach to professional support roleAn understanding of how to prevent and manage challenging behaviour.Strong communication & interpersonal skillsComfortable working with essential information technology and providing reportsResilience, Positive Attitude & Openness to ChangePlanning, Organising & PrioritisingMain Duties/ Responsibilities:Support service users with low level intellectual disabilityThe staff member would be working in a house, supporting 4-5 clients, clients will be low levels of needs and will be attending structured activities by day (e.g. day service/courses).Encourage service users independence, supporting if required budgeting/household chores reminders/attending day service.Ensure service users are supported to make sense of their environment, learn new skills and maximise their independence.Support individuals to live a meaningful life, with a priority focus on equal citizenship.Facilitate everyone supported by the services to actively participate and integrate into the community.Act as an advocate for clientsActively promote the participation of clients in the formulation and execution of their goal planning.Undertake duties as may be assigned by your direct manager/team leader to support the care of clients.Manage challenging behaviours, using a positive behaviour support plan.Provide reports on client activities to managementAttend staff meetings and contribute constructively to the ongoing progression/implementation of the care plan.Attend training and engage in own professional developmentEnsure that a safe home environment is maintainedEnsure that the person supported in motivated to try new things and overcome obstacles to progressSupport people with dignity and respect.The above Job Description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him/her from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office.
