The Assistant Buyer will support the Purchasing Manager and wider Procurement team in the sourcing and administration of construction materials and services.
The role offers a strong foundation for someone looking to develop a career in procurement, with opportunities for learning, growth and contribution to key projects across Ireland.
Responsibilities
Procurement and Sourcing
Assist in servicing material requisitions in line with company procedures and project timelines
Source and negotiate pricing for construction materials and services under the guidance of the Purchasing Manager
Maintain supplier relationships and support ongoing supplier review and performance management
Promote the use of preferred supplier agreements and e-catalogues across project teams
Administration and Process Support
Maintain accurate purchase order and supplier records
Track supplier performance, costs and delivery accuracy
Assist in resolving account queries and ensure documentation is managed in line with internal processes
Contribute to the continuous improvement of procurement workflows and data accuracy
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Support communication between procurement, site and project teams
Participate in planning and lookahead meetings to ensure early procurement engagement
Liaise with internal stakeholders to resolve material supply or scheduling issues in a timely manner
Experience
Essential
Minimum two years' experience in administration, buying or procurement support roles
Strong organisational and numerical skills with attention to detail
Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines
Good communication and interpersonal skills
IT literacy including Microsoft Office and familiarity with procurement or ERP systems
Desirable
Experience within the construction industry or a related sector
Basic technical understanding of construction materials and systems
Knowledge of procurement compliance and reporting practices
Familiarity with COINS or similar ERP platforms
Qualifications
Essential
Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification
Demonstrated interest in procurement or supply chain management
Desirable
Working towards or willing to pursue a CIPS qualification (support available)
Training or experience in procurement systems or digital tools
Key Requirements
Flexibility to work on-site approximately one day per week, with the remaining days office-based or hybrid after probation
Willingness to travel to sites across Ireland as required
Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to learning
