You'll be supported by a collaborative team to deliver an excellent pharmacy service and ensure optimal procurement of medicines.
This is a 5-day role at 0.6 WTE with flexibility on working hours.
The Rotunda Hospital is the oldest continuously operating maternity hospital in the world and one of the busiest in Europe.
For over 270 years, it has provided care to hundreds of thousands of women and their families.
Today, the Rotunda provides care to over 10,000 pregnant women each year, with one in six babies born in Ireland being a Rotunda baby.
The Pharmacy Department at the Rotunda benefits from full integration between its Pharmacy Informatics System (Hospital Medicines Management System) and BD Rowa dispensing robot.
The hospital also uses the Maternal and Newborn Clinical Management System (MN-CMS), a complete Electronic Health Record, to support high-quality care and patient safety.
Professional Qualifications, Experience (A)The Pharmaceutical Technicians Diploma awarded by the University of Dublin.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1.Work collaboratively with other members of the team to ensure that patient care is central to all activities of the Pharmacy Department.
2.Participate in service delivery as part of a professional, punctual and dedicated team.
3.Create, promote and maintain open communications and healthy working relationships.
4.Maintain the principles of equity, accountability and quality of service in daily work.
5.Lead on the procurement of medicines in collaboration with the Pharmacy Executive Manager or deputy.
6.Anticipate and mitigate risks associated with medication shortages, including purchasing for safety to ensure that replacement products do not introduce new clinical risks.
7.Collaborate on the expanded role of the Pharmacy Team, including Pharmaceutical Technicians medication history assessments for new admissions to the hospital.
8.Ensure comprehensive provision of ward top-up and supply services by participating in the provision of ward-based top up and stock rotation in line with agreed levels and frequencies.
9.Deliver controlled drugs to the wards.
10.Ensure that emergency medications throughout the hospital are in date and keep appropriate records of the expiry date checking process.
11.Prepare pre-packs of bulk preparations.
12.Ensure orders are received, checked in and stored appropriately, and returns to wholesalers are made in an accurate and timely fashion.
13.Assist in the efficient management of requisitions, despatch notes and invoices and assist in the development of systems to streamline current workflows and introduce IT solutions to minimise paper work.
14.Participate in stock rotation, ensure adequate stock levels are maintained and ensure that stock expiry dates are monitored and expired stock is removed from the shelves and disposed of as per departmental procedures, both in the pharmacy and on the wards.
15.Contribute to the safe, orderly working of the dispensary and ward top-up services.
16.Prepare individual prescriptions for specialised patient groups under the direction of the appropriate clinical pharmacist.
e.g. Methotrexate, Monover, trial drugs etc. 17.Develop, maintain and ensure adherence to dispensary and supply procedures.
18.Advise on the requirements relating to drug storage and service delivery for new wards and units opening within the Rotunda Hospital campus.
19.Arrange and participate in regular stock checks and audits in accordance with the needs of cost-effective purchasing, minimisation of waste and audit accountability.
20.Liaise closely and co-ordinate service delivery with the other Senior pharmaceutical Technicians and Pharmacists as to appropriate technician cover to ensure a high level of teamwork between pharmacists and pharmaceutical technicians.
21.Ensuring that all areas are kept tidy in accordance with needs of safety and hygiene.
22.Organise and provide cover for other technician staff when necessary.
23.Organise and participate in general dispensing, top-up, distribution, extemporaneous preparation and other activities as required 24.Supervision and training of technician staff, students and ancillary staff as required.
25.Ensure that all necessary cleaning, monitoring of storage conditions and necessary maintenance of facilities and the department is carried out.
26.Take responsibility for dealing with returned drugs for recycling or destruction, and the training of staff in same.
Direct and participate when necessary in the sorting of returned drugs for recycling or destruction.
27.Ensure the performance of all duties and responsibilities in line with all Pharmacy Department procedures and protocols as well as hospital wide procedures 28.Provide advice and information to medical and nursing staff regarding dispensing and supply services.
29.Participate in audit and research, including clinical trials under the direction of the Pharmacist Executive Manager or deputy.
30.Act as a representative of the Pharmacy Department at ward level and report to the Chief Pharmacist or deputy any unusual situations, occurrences, conditions or complaints related to medications, medication requests, medication usage or security.
31.Use available electronic systems to facilitate the delivery of pharmacy services.
32.Ensure that all departmental and hospital wide Health and Safety protocols and procedures are adhered to and all areas of non-compliance are promptly addressed.
33.Ensure that supplies from stores are checked and reordered.
34.Ensure that medication procurement, storage and supply processes are in line with the Pharmacy Act **** and the Falsified Medicines Regulations.
35.Write and update relevant standard operating procedures in collaboration with the Chief Pharmacist or deputy.
36.The post holder agrees to liaise with the Pharmacist Executive Manager, Senior Pharmacist and other senior technicians on matters concerning departmental procedures and on matters concerning safety, security, complaints concerning the service, unusual occurrences or conditions relating to drugs, drug requests, usage and their security in the hospital.
37.Perform such other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the Chief Pharmacist or deputy.
Appropriate training, subject to availability, will be offered to facilitate personal development within the post.
