Experienced Mechatronics/Robotics Engineer

The Autonomous Enterprise and Wafer Fab Sustainability team seeks a talented engineer to assist in designing, programming, and maintaining next-generation physical automation systems for our semiconductor wafer fabrication facility.

This role involves working with cross-functional teams and vendors to create innovative solutions integrating mechanical, electrical, and control systems ensuring optimal performance, functionality, and reliability throughout the fabrication process.


Responsibilities and Expectations

* Collaborate with internal and external teams to define automation requirements.
* Contribute to brainstorming sessions and propose creative solutions for automation challenges and opportunities.
* Design, model, and simulate proposals using relevant simulation tools.
* Conduct feasibility and prototype testing to validate designs and proposals.
* Utilize CAD software to create, review, or refine designs.
* Generate requirements documents including Bill of Materials, costs, vendors, etc.
* Source and work with automation integrators and solution providers.
* Create documentation, including system manuals, procedures, and technical reports.
* Implement and optimize control strategies to ensure efficient material flow and minimize downtime.
* Program and troubleshoot robotic systems, conveyors, and automated carriers.
* Ensure compliance with all safety protocols.
* Monitor system performance, identify issues, and conduct root cause analysis.
* Develop preventive maintenance schedules and perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance.
* Respond to out-of-control scenarios.
* Work on continuous improvement projects to enhance automation performance and throughput.
* Coordinate with automation integrators and suppliers for system design, upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
* Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in mechatronics and related fields.

Qualifications & Related Experience

* Bachelor's Degree (level 7 / level 8) in Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation, or a related field.
* Proven experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, HMI, and industrial automation is desirable.
* Knowledge of process control principles and data acquisition systems.
* Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp, etc.
* 5+ years of experience with various types of mobile robotic manipulators.
* Advanced level robotic programming.


Advantageous Skills and Experiences

* Maintenance of physical equipment.
* Working knowledge of a programming language (e.g. C#, Java, Python, etc.).
* Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining physical automation solutions.
* Familiarity with wafer carriers, transport mechanisms, and track and trace technologies.
* Knowledge of SEMI standards and protocols for semiconductor equipment communication.
