The Tooling Design Department is an essential component in Engineering and Operations. The team's objective is to continue supporting the design of tools required for manufacturing facilities. The team also provides innovative solutions and services to the tooling group and other departments to meet company goals. In this role, you will be part of a team that relies on effective teamwork and global collaboration in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC and/or manual Milling Machines for the construction, assembly, and repair of molds, dies, and ancillary equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintain and support existing tooling.
* Provide good centerline spacing layout for experimental molds, commercial molds, MTDs, and devices with minimal supervision.
* Design experimental molds, commercial molds, MTDs, and devices with minimal supervision.
* Coordinate tooling orders for manufacturing plants.
* Support the West plants and other engineering departments with tooling issues, standardization, and best practices.
* Manage projects to improve product quality and tooling designs.
* Collaborate with fabrication and elastomer manufacturing facilities to verify and optimize tooling designs.
* Develop best practice standards with cross-functional teams across all West locations.
* Stay updated on new technology trends, materials, and design software.
* Align with company and department objectives.
* Work independently with little supervision.
* Follow FDA, cGMP, ISO, and other regulations.
* Load, unload, and operate machinery as instructed.
* Monitor machine operation, detect malfunctions, and make adjustments.
* Perform quality control and documentation.
* Transport materials and perform routine maintenance on machines.
* Translate mechanical documents and drawings into dimensions.
* Use measuring tools to inspect parts and ensure specifications.
* Train and instruct colleagues and new employees.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience.
Work Experience
* At least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
* Proficient in SolidWorks.
* Strong computer skills including MS Office.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Understanding of machining and fabrication methods.
* Knowledge of cGMP, ISO, and FDA standards.
* Familiarity with AutoCAD, FEA, CFD, and PDM Pro.
* Awareness of SOPs and contribution to Lean Sigma initiatives.
* Commitment to safety and quality policies.
Travel Requirements
Up to 13 business days per year (5%).
Physical Requirements
Sedentary work involving minimal physical exertion, mostly sitting.
