Overview
Our growing UK&I Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) team is looking for a Principal Environmental Permitting Consultant in Ireland to support the delivery of EHS compliance and permitting across our existing client base and new clients. The role involves delivering a broad range of EHS compliance and permitting services across sectors including Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals/Biopharmaceuticals, Water, Alternative Fuels, Hi Tech, Commercial and Energy. Based within a specialist team but working as part of the wider AECOM business, you would provide environmental compliance and permitting support across all industry sectors, through global framework agreements and site-specific commissions. AECOM is helping shape good compliance practice for the transition to a low carbon economy.
Responsibilities
* Environmental Permitting and Compliance Support: Advising clients on the implications for their business of legislation, environmental regulatory guidance and Best Available Techniques (BAT) to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, best practice and BAT standards. This could include undertaking licence compliance studies, liability risk assessments and BAT studies.
* Regulator and Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate engagement with regulatory bodies and stakeholders. Assist clients in fulfilling permit/licence obligations, including reporting requirements and addressing pre-operational or improvement conditions (e.g., licence applications, licence variations and licence surrender).
* Business Development: Contribute to business development efforts by building and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients; help expand AECOM’s compliance and permitting service offerings.
* Quality and Technical Assurance: Conduct quality assurance and technical reviews of work completed by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
* Mentorship and Professional Development: Mentor and support the growth of junior team members and emerging professionals in the field of permitting and compliance.
Qualifications
* Education and Qualifications: A base first degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or science discipline.
* Professional Experience: Demonstrable experience in a consultancy role; proven track record in delivering environmental compliance and permitting services, particularly in the Pharmaceutical/Biopharmaceutical sector; significant experience with Industrial Emissions / Integrated Pollution Control (IPC) licensing; demonstrable experience managing consultancy support across a range of EHS compliance areas, including industrial emissions licensing and permitting, and pharmaceutical sector.
* Legislative Knowledge: Extensive working knowledge of relevant European environmental legislation related to EHS compliance consulting.
* Technical Skills: Excellent report writing and technical review capabilities; strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Teamwork and Work Ethic: Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple projects, including those with tight deadlines; proactive, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills; confident liaising with colleagues, industrial clients, and regulatory authorities.
* Desirable: Health and safety experience and knowledge of ISO 14001 standards.
Location and Work Arrangements
Based within a specialist EHS & Remediation team covering Ireland and the UK, the role is flexible in terms of base location. This position can be based from our offices in Dublin, Cork or Belfast, with hybrid working options.
