Overview
As a Back-End Engineer at Watt Footprint, you will help develop and scale the core services that power our energy monitoring platform across web and mobile applications. Our platform is already in use by customers and plays a central role in helping organisations understand, manage, and reduce their energy consumption.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building reliable, scalable back-end systems, taking ownership of core services and APIs, and contributing to the evolution of a growing product. You will work closely with our front-end/mobile developer, Data Engineer and product team to ensure the underlying architecture supports a high-quality user experience and future growth.
You will have a strong level of autonomy as a back-end subject-matter expert, with the trust to make sound technical decisions, while collaborating across engineering, product, operations, and commercial teams to ensure what we build aligns with the wider business vision.
There is clear potential for growth within the role. As the platform and engineering function continue to scale, a strong performer will have the opportunity to grow into a more senior position with increased responsibility and influence over technical direction.
Responsibilities
Own and develop our back-end services, APIs, and data layer, from new feature development through to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and well-structured server-side systems.
Work closely with the front-end/mobile developer to support efficient integration between client applications and back-end services.
Manage and develop our existing cloud infrastructure (AWS) to ensure reliability, scalability, and security.
Contribute to architectural decisions as the product and user base grow.
Implement and maintain integrations with third-party services and internal tools.
Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, following best practices.
Assist in improving development workflows, documentation, and technical standards.
Requirements
BSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Startup / scale-up experience.
3+ years of experience in back-end or server-side development with a proven track record of delivering production systems.
Strong experience with Node.js (or similar server-side language).
Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs.
Experience working with cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Good understanding of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) and data modelling.
Ability to take features from concept through to production.
What we offer
Competitive base salary of €45,000 – €60,000, depending on experience.
