Head of R&D
Our client, a multinational company with operations in Ireland, is seeking someone to lead their R&D function. Reporting to the CTO, the successful candidate will have a background in developing TAVR devices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Identify research opportunities and work with internal teams or third-party contractors to develop clinical product solutions.
2. Maintain and improve high standards of medical device engineering.
3. Take technical responsibility for all products and projects within assigned groups.
4. Implement and maintain high standards of design control.
5. Source new technologies, materials, components, and equipment as required to develop capabilities within designated areas.
6. Identify new vendors and strategic partners for product development and component/subassembly supply.
7. Engage with Key Opinion Leaders, physicians, and product managers to develop innovative medical devices that improve patient care.
8. Solve issues through information exchange, influence, and active persuasion without direct command to gain cooperation on program execution plans.
9. Lead, direct, and review the work of experienced professionals.
10. Manage, motivate, and develop team members including vendors to complete assigned major programs or projects.
11. Responsible for cost minimization, risk reduction, and objective completion.
12. Resolve issues and ensure task completion by establishing priorities and reaching compromise with team members and functional managers.
13. Promote problem-solving techniques within the team.
14. Establish program objectives, timelines, milestones, and budget.
15. Execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
16. Ensure that programs are managed on schedule and within budget.
17. Foster technical innovation in staff members.
18. Develop harmonious working relations with other functions and provide employees within R&D with necessary information and resources to effectively perform their jobs.
19. Knowledge of the Galway med tech industry's ecosystem and ability to tap its potential.
