Our client, a prominent State body responsible for asset, liability, and risk management, is seeking an experienced medical defence litigation lawyer to join their team as a Claims Manager in its Dublin City Centre office working on a hybrid basis on a 12 month fixed term contract. In this role, you will be accountable for managing clinical negligence claims by reference to a major national clinical indemnity scheme. You will play a vital role in ensuring claims are managed fairly, ethically, and in a manner that effectively contains state liabilities while providing expert medico-legal guidance. Principal Accountabilities Portfolio Management: Responsible for the management of an assigned portfolio of clinical claims against the State under the clinical indemnity scheme. Investigation & Evaluation: Responsible for the investigation and evaluation of each assigned claim, seeking guidance from senior colleagues on direction as appropriate. Strategy Implementation: Proposes approaches for the investigation and resolution of cases and implements them subject to approval. Third-Party Liaison: Liaises with solicitors and other third parties to seek guidance on the most appropriate approach to each claim. Legal; Expert Selection: Selects solicitors, barristers, and experts for cases, and attends meetings with the relevant authorities. Process & Accuracy: Responsible for ensuring the timely processing of all claims and ensuring all documentation is accurate. Inquest Support: Responsible for assisting health authorities and hospitals in respect of managing and assisting with coronial inquests. Advisory Services: Acts as a daily contact for assigned authorities to provide advice and guidance on issues pertinent to the clinical indemnity scheme. Medico-Legal Advice: Provides medical-legal advice to all hospitals within the assigned portfolio. Task Allocation: May allocate work to administrators (note: this role has no supervisory responsibilities). Requirements & Experience Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience managing medical defence litigation. Education: Third-level and/or professional qualification. Key Skills Strong relationship management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven negotiating and problem-solving skills. Proficient IT skills commensurate with the principal accountabilities, including knowledge of NIMS, iManage, and other relevant systems.
