Overview of role:
To prepare and serve food/drink to the patients of UPMC Kildare Hospital. To ensure the kitchen is always clean.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist in the preparation and cooking, portion, store, dispatch and serve food and beverages to patients, staff and visitors as directed.
* Clean equipment and associated areas of work in accordance with cleaning schedules using recommended detergents, leaving the kitchen and service area spotless at the end of the shift.
* Adhere to good practice with regard to hygiene, health and safety and HACCP.
* Work effectively within the kitchen team to ensure high customer service standards.
* Minimise waste and improve waste reduction.
* Ensure that all food production is in line with high food standards.
* Assist with record keeping as directed by the catering manager/chef.
* Carry out other duties as directed by the line manager.
Health and Safety:
* Uphold UPMC Kildare Hospital's policy requirements in relation to fire, infection control and health and safety at work regulations and attend updates.
* Identify potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors and adhere to relevant incident reporting procedures.
* Observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well‑being of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Previous catering experience in a hospital setting or similar role is an advantage.
* HACCP trained would be a distinct advantage.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Excellent team player with experience in a fast‑paced environment.
* Strong ability to work on own initiative whilst being an effective team member.
* Strong customer service skills, awareness and sensitivity towards patients & customers.
* Polite and professional manner.
