Introduction
NOW OFFERING $15,000 HIRING BONUS* (effective August 9, ****, paid incrementally over 4 years).
This is a new continuous examination.
The eligible list will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, extendable as needed.
The examination may be reopened and additional candidates merged onto the existing list according to score.
Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application.
Failure to submit will result in disqualification.
Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the last day for filing.
Only online submission is accepted.

Veterans who pass and provide a DD-214 that meets county criteria will receive additional points.
About the Alameda County Sheriff's Office
The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency accredited by CALEA for law enforcement services, the Regional Training Center, and the Dispatch Unit; by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board for its Crime Lab; and by the Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board for its Explosive Ordinance Unit.

With a budget of approximately $600 million and over 1,600 authorized positions—including more than 1,000 sworn personnel—the Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff/Coroner Yesenia L. Sanchez, supported by Undersheriff April Luckett-Fahimi and Assistant Sheriffs Daniel McNaughton and Pace Stokes.
The Sheriff's duties include: providing security to the Consolidated Superior Courts; operating the Coroner's Bureau; managing a full-service criminalistics laboratory; performing civil process; operating a county jail; operating the County Office of Emergency Services; providing patrol and investigative services to unincorporated areas and contracted regions (e.g., City of Dublin, Oakland International Airport, etc.); conducting a basic academy per POS training; fish and game enforcement; leading the Narcotics Task Force; and directing the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force.
The Position
Deputy Sheriff II's supervise the work and conduct of inmates in a county correctional institution; patrol designated areas; enforce law and order; receive and serve civil process; maintain order in courts; assist with special investigations; investigate circumstances surrounding deaths referred to the Coroner; coordinate emergency services programs and volunteer activities; and perform related duties as required.
Deputy Sheriff II's are trained in law enforcement knowledge and skills and may be rotated among courts, jails, correction facilities, the Coroner's Bureau, patrol districts, and investigations as departmental needs dictate.
The class is distinct from the higher Sergeant ranking, which is a supervisory role.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience I:
Eighteen (18) months as a Deputy Sheriff I in the Alameda County classified service and possession of a California POST Basic certificate.
Experience II:
Minimum thirty-six (36) months full-time experience as a peace officer in a California law-enforcement agency (municipal, state police, sheriff's, or CHP) with separation within 36 months of application and possession of a California POST Basic certificate.
Experience III:
Minimum thirty-six (36) months full-time experience as a peace officer outside California and possession of a valid Basic Course Waiver issued by California POST.
License:
Valid California State Motor Vehicle Operator's license by date of appointment.
Age:
Must be at least 21 years old at time of appointment.
Citizenship:
Candidates need not be U.S. citizens but must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
Background:
A thorough background investigation will be conducted; any felony conviction results in disqualification.
Physical Requirements:
Normal hearing; vision: at least ****** near-field, correctable to *****; free from color blindness and permanent eye abnormality; excellent physical condition with strength, endurance, agility and safety-member physical standards.

Examination Components
Review of applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession of minimum requirements.
Oral examination (100% weighting of final score).
Background investigation and psychological examination; felony conviction results in disqualification.
