Main Responsibilities
* Support the safe and efficient operation of the microbiology laboratory and ensure adherence to health, safety, and quality standards.
* Write, maintain and enforce procedures for all areas of the microbiology laboratory and its testing equipment.
* Assist in training non-scientific staff and coordinate introductions for professional visitors to the laboratory.
* Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and perform microbiological testing.
* Support and contribute to effective execution of audit activities.
* Identify and implement operational procedures to optimize resource use.
* Co-operate with staff to develop and lead introduction of new ideas and technologies.
* Maintain inventory logs and restock lab supplies.
* Ensure adherence to codes and guidelines related to professional practice and maintenance of Quality Assurance standards.
* Conduct routine safety checks and walkthroughs to adhere to biosafety regulations.
Qualifications
* Be registered on the Medical Scientists Register - Maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
* Possess fellowship or be eligible for fellowship of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (FAMLS) or equivalent.
* Possess membership or be eligible for membership of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (MAMLS) or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience in a Hospital Laboratory Microbiology Setting.
* 2+ years of post-qualification experience.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to present information clearly.
* Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
* Strong planning and organizing skills.
* Up-to-date knowledge of best practice in delivering a quality laboratory service and awareness of ISO 15189.
* Up-to-date knowledge of antimicrobiology susceptibility testing and guidelines.
* Familiarity with laboratory information systems.
Compensation and Location
Role compensation: €25,000 - €30,000 per annum per part-time hours.
Primary work location: IRL Limerick - Castletroy.
