Assistant Technical Manager
to strengthen their technical function and support the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality products.
The Role
As Assistant Technical Manager, you will work closely with the Technical Manager to ensure that all products meet regulatory, customer, and internal standards. You will play a key role in
technical compliance, ingredient labelling, specification management, and customer support
, while driving continuous improvement across the Technical department.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and maintain
technical product specifications
across all categories.
* Ensure
ingredient labelling and declarations
are fully compliant with EU & UK legislation.
* Monitor and review
use of nitrates, preservatives, and other additives
, ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer standards.
* Support the
investigation and resolution of customer complaints
, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
* Oversee and manage
non-conformances
, ensuring timely follow-up and documentation.
* Provide support during
customer, BRC, and regulatory audits
.
* Assist the Technical Manager in
driving a strong food safety and compliance culture
across the site.
* Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal teams (Production, NPD, and Commercial) to ensure technical requirements are met.
Key Requirements
* Degree in
Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline
.
* 2-4 years' experience in a
technical, quality, or specification's role
within food manufacturing (sauces, seasonings, or meat sector experience an advantage).
* Strong knowledge of
EU/UK labelling legislation, HACCP, and BRCGS requirements
.
* Experience handling
customer complaints and non-conformances
.
* Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical and regulatory information.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional and customer interactions.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with retailer specification portals (e.g., Tesco, Dunnes, SuperValu) highly desirable.
