Our client, an exciting scale-up organization based in Galway, is seeking an experienced individual with operations, engineering, and lean manufacturing experience for a senior management role as the company expands its manufacturing operations. As the Operations & Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will be a key member of the management team with responsibility for all aspects of growing their medical device manufacturing operations.
The role involves leading the entire operations value stream and managing the production and manufacturing engineering team to ensure the continued quality and effective supply of medical devices to customers.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Operations Strategy: Develop and implement the operations strategy in line with the company’s overall objectives.
2. Value Stream Management: Lead and manage the end-to-end operations value stream, including direct management of the manufacturing engineering team and production personnel, and indirect leadership of quality and supply chain personnel.
3. Manufacturing Engineering Management: Serve as the functional manager for the manufacturing engineering team, overseeing all engineering and facilities activities at the manufacturing site.
4. Lean Manufacturing: Lead continuous improvement initiatives through a structured Lean manufacturing program, identifying and executing process, equipment, and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity and capacity.
5. Performance Management: Establish and maintain adherence to performance targets for operations.
6. Quality Assurance: Lead the team to implement and manage quality assurance processes to meet company, regulatory, and customer standards. Monitor production outputs for defects and yield, and implement root cause and corrective actions for complaints or non-conformances.
7. Sustaining Engineering: Provide technical support for daily production and drive process improvements for existing products and processes.
8. Operational Management: Develop budgets and manage operational costs, including human resources, materials, overhead, and capital expenditures.
9. Production Capacity Planning: Plan production capacity and workflows to meet output targets and SIOP requirements efficiently.
10. New Product Introduction: Manage resources for new product launches in collaboration with R&D, ensuring successful validation and ramp-up to meet launch and customer requirements.
11. Facilities & Equipment Management: Ensure maintenance of equipment and facilities to maximize performance. Manage acquisition of new equipment, tooling, and measurement tools to meet capacity needs, and develop a roadmap for introducing new technologies or automation.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Degree in Manufacturing, Production, or Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations or production management within a team-based manufacturing environment. Medical device background is preferred but not essential.
* Minimum 3 years of engineering management experience, which may include senior engineering roles combined with operations management experience.
* Extensive experience in leading and applying Lean manufacturing methodologies.
* Proven ability to develop and mentor a team.
* Experience in developing business strategies and implementing action plans.
