Purpose of the Job
Performs laboratory testing in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment in support of raw materials, in-process product, finished product, stability, and/or validation.
Major Responsibilities
Uses scientific education and/or experience to generate results in accordance with GMP/procedural requirements and scientific principles.
Interprets data output to determine conformance with product specifications.
Understands internal business processes to prioritise assigned work duties; has experience and command of multiple laboratory techniques to perform them with minimal error.
Recognises exception events based on GMP/procedural knowledge and initiates the exception process to ensure proper remedial action; can identify events that could impact data integrity and design experimental protocols to determine root cause.
Trains other laboratory personnel on techniques within their training matrix.
Understands GMP/procedural impact of proposed changes to operating procedures.
Takes responsibility for completing assigned tasks and can independently prioritise their work schedule to meet objectives.
Has basic computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets) and learns Abbott computer systems and laboratory instrumentation; demonstrates proficiency to work with computer applications.
Works under general supervision but can manage their own time to ensure timely completion of duties; maintains a safe work environment and proposes changes to improve safety.
Maintains GMP with respect to laboratory records, procedures, and systems; proposes and implements changes to maintain procedural requirements.
Maintains and updates training certifications as needed for assigned tasks; actively adds new training to meet broader team objectives.
Performs analytical test methods as written to support product/material release with minimal error; proposes and implements changes to improve methodology.
Troubleshoots laboratory techniques and instrument issues; independently interprets data for conformance with specifications.
Initiates appropriate exception documents and designs experiments to determine root cause.
Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications; participates in and supports team objectives and ensures improvement ideas are implemented.
Maintains training and recertification on training modules, safety, GMP and procedural updates; pursues continual personal development.
Demonstrates logical thinking to identify contributors to exception events and proposes scientific protocols to determine root cause.
Completes routine analytical testing in a timely manner and prepares laboratory solutions, reagents, and standards in compliance with procedures and GMP.
Performs daily checks on equipment (e.g., balances, pH meters) and verifies calibration before use.
Documents testing activities clearly and concisely to ensure compliance with documentation practices and traceability; communicates suspect results to supervisor.
Completes out-of-specification and deviation reports to a high standard and in a timely manner.
Supports the training activities of other analysts and updates procedures and laboratory documentation as required.
Can work in multiple laboratory functional areas; performs a multitude of techniques with minimal error and adapts to unforeseen obstacles to accomplish tasks.
Willing to take on additional tasks and to work in other areas when required.
Performs tasks with varying supervision, manages time effectively, and recommends improvements.
Takes initiative, supports team activities, and helps resolve technical or process issues; consistently meets commitments.

Education & Competencies
National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline.
2+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Strong knowledge of general technical concepts and practices with a good understanding of product or system fundamentals in a laboratory environment; operates in a quality system environment; failure to perform tasks adequately may result in noncompliance with government regulations.
Performs routine technical assignments using standard methods; performs routine setup, testing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of equipment, materials, systems, and/or products; makes adjustments under supervision.
Completes tasks in line with defined laboratory schedules as directed by the supervisor.
Solves basic to intermediate problems of limited scope requiring interpretation of defined procedures; maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
General supervision with instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
