Work Flexibility: Hybrid or OnsiteOverviewStryker presents an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated R&D team in developing key technology to enable the evolution of new surgical techniques in electrosurgery. The successful candidate will work with a multi‑disciplined team at our Innovation Centre in Cork and focus on establishing the needs of our customers while designing and bringing innovative solutions for electrosurgery applications to market. The Innovation Centre, which features unique design and collaboration workspaces, state‑of‑the‑art prototyping and test facilities, and a simulated operating room, is the first of its kind in Ireland. The centre focuses on the development of new technologies and products to improve patient safety and outcomes during surgery, and increase operating room efficiency across multiple surgical specialties including neuro, spine, ENT and orthopaedic surgery.ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will design, develop, refine and evaluate electro‑mechanical components, assemblies or subsystems for electro‑mechanical medical devices. They will use concurrent engineering and rapid prototyping techniques to reduce product time to market while adhering to project deadlines and product costs. They will plan and execute successful product development projects, occasionally leading and training team members on technical aspects of product commercialization.Technical ResponsibilitiesLead or mentor design and development of electrical components, sub‑systems, and/or systems for medical devices.Apply and mentor others on advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts.Conduct, design, and select advanced prototyping and testing.Lead and guide in correction of complex product design issues.Conduct technology exploration and influence application in the business.Translate user needs to design inputs/specifications and produce complex system‑level designs independently.Develop a number of invention disclosures, patents or trade secrets.Independently make design trade‑off decisions while designing multiple components of the system.Lead the Design and Implementation of High Energy Electrical Sub Systems for Patient‑Connected Medical Devices.Translate clinical and system‑level needs into electrical requirements, specifications, and architectures.Business ResponsibilitiesContribute to competitive and market strategy by demonstrating in‑depth knowledge of the market, customer dynamics and competitive offerings.Apply strong understanding of clinical procedures to enhance product development.Contribute to and execute customer‑facing activities such as voice of customer and customer‑centric design in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.Demonstrate financial acumen.Med Device ComplianceMentor others as a business‑unit expert on the usage of industry standards, including design requirements and test strategies per applicable regulations.Lead others to create and refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History file, and create more progressive technical content.Contribute to R&D procedures and development of industry standards, working closely with cross‑functional business units.General ResponsibilitiesWork cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success, both leading and influencing other leaders on the team.Identify and lead the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.Execute and lead segments of complex product development to advance projects through the design /development /launch process.Contribute to complex product development through release and lead one technical area of expertise.Hold self and others accountable to deliver high‑quality results with passion, energy and drive to meet business priorities.Mentor, develop and inspire others in current and future roles.Technical SkillsAbility to lead or teach electrical engineers in electrical design. Advanced understanding of the design of complex components and sub‑systems. Ability to apply advanced circuit and electrical system test methods. Advanced understanding of manufacturing and testing methods. Ability to apply standard technologies used in industry. Ability to perform complex electrical stackups. Advanced understanding of statistical methods. Advanced knowledge of sub‑system, system, and environmental interactions.Preferred Skills / Engineering ToolsUnderstand advanced theory and methods of Power Electronics and Energy Delivery, RF, Electromagnetics, Measurement Sensing and Control Interfaces, Standards & Control theory.Lead teams in its application while demonstrating direct, hands‑on experience designing custom magnetics, including high‑frequency isolation transformers, Power Electronics and energy delivery, deep, in‑depth power electronics design expertise, experience with resonant and quasi‑resonant topologies (e.g. ClassD,E,F,LLC or related).Experience designing HVDC‑DC converters, power amplifier design for high‑energy delivery into non‑linear loads, and design involving kV‑range peak voltages, high crest factors, and dynamic loading.Operate in the kHz to low‑MHz frequency domain, RF proficiency in designing and analysing RF circuits including simulation and EMI/EMC, using network analyzers and other test and measurement equipment.Guide printed‑circuit and cable design to meet RF performance criteria and understand various RF protocol communication standards (e.g. ISO15693).Electromagnetics knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility requirements from internationally recognised standards, ability to work closely with software, mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines to implement EMC best practices and conduct testing.Understanding of parasitic effects within systems, cables and PCB designs, and expertise in electromagnetic energy control concepts, impedance control methodologies and current control concepts.Measurement, sensing & control interfaces experience designing circuits in environments with high dv/dt and high common‑mode noise, defining clean electrical interfaces and constraints for embedded software, DSP, or FPGA‑based control systems.Standards proficiency in reading standards correctly (scope, transition periods, use of Parts1 and2 of standards series) and understanding of their interplay with risk management.Control theory expertise in time‑domain and frequency‑domain analysis techniques, MATLAB/Simulink proficiency, and ability to conceptualise, develop, optimise and integrate new algorithms for monitoring and controlling complex electromechanical systems.Education RequirementsBachelor's degree in EE or related discipline and 6+ years of work experience.Travel Percentage: 20%
