Blended working arrangements in place.Job descriptionDeputy M401 and Deputy M402 (Main Civils and Tunnel Contract Package) Head of Engineering & Environment (HoEE) will provide technical leadership to the MetroLink Directorate team responsible for managing the design and construction of main contractors. The role includes assurance and approvals of the design, construction, test, and trial running phases of the MetroLink system.Principal accountabilitiesProvide technical leadership within the design area and oversee a team of engineers to assure system design and maintain the design baseline until acceptance by the customer and the Commission for Railway Regulation (CRR).Provide technical support to the Independent Safety Assessor during system integration and acceptance.Bring innovative technology and delivery methods to MetroLink.Conduct technical investigations into equipment- and system-level anomalies, liaising with design and construction engineers as required.Maintain the design and production baseline through to design acceptance, including specifications, interfaces, data sheets, BOMs and certification documentation, liaising with production, the DO and safety engineers as required.Provide work package estimates balancing quality, compliance and cost, and discharge work packages to time, quality and cost.Provide technical guidance and leadership to the engineering team; ensure activities align with MetroLink goals and industry standards; mentor and guide engineers.Lead engagement with stakeholders (clients, contractors, regulatory bodies) and provide regular project progress updates.Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.Promote an equitable, inclusive and collaborative workplace.Perform additional tasks as required for the project.Essential requirementsCharacter: Each candidate must be of good character.Health: Candidates must be fully competent and capable of undertaking duties and in good health to render regular and efficient service.Experience, skills and qualificationsExperience: Minimum 10 years of senior experience in a civil engineering environment; minimum 5 years leading a discipline engineering team during design, construction and integration; civil engineering rail experience required; Metro rail experience advantageous; experience managing a Design-Build contractor; experience in Systems Engineering lifecycle activities; experience in relevant operational environments and RAM; experience presenting to customers or chairing design reviews.Skills: Knowledge of IS, BS, EN, NFPA standards; related civil, structural and temporary works activities; managing design resources and deliverables; ability to work in a team to produce coherent specifications and estimates; project controls and report writing; stakeholder engagement; strong verbal and written communication; risk identification and mitigation; collaboration across multidisciplinary teams; understanding of railway systems; quality assurance; adaptability; strong interpersonal skills; analytical and organizational skills; ability to drive high-quality service.Education: NFQ Level 8 degree or equivalent in a relevant civil or structural engineering discipline.Professional memberships: Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland or equivalent registration.NotesApplicants should explicitly reference how they meet the requirements in their application.
