The role ensures that laboratory systems, processes, and practices meet EU GMP, HPRA, FDA, and SGS quality requirements, while delivering reliable and compliant microbiological testing services to support client and business needs.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the setup, implementation, and day-to-day operation of a GMP-compliant microbiology laboratoryDevelop, implement, and maintain the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS), including SOPs, test methods, policies, and controlled documentationDefine and maintain microbiology standards to ensure compliance with EU GMP, FDA, HPRA, and SGS requirementsManage the installation, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and lifecycle maintenance of microbiology laboratory equipment and systemsEnsure laboratory audit readiness and support internal, client, and regulatory inspections, including CAPA managementOversee microbiological testing activities, including bioburden, sterility, endotoxin testing, microbial identification, environmental monitoring, and water testingDesign, implement, and maintain environmental monitoring programmes, including sampling plans, trending, and reportingImplement effective microbial control and contamination control strategiesRecruit, train, and manage laboratory personnel, ensuring training compliance, competency assessment, and performance managementEnsure data integrity in line with ALCOA+ principles and electronic data system requirementsLead and support deviations, investigations, and non-conformancesCollaborate with internal stakeholders including Operations, Quality Assurance, Training, and Business Development teamsEnsure compliance with EHS, biosafety, and site safety requirementsQualificationsDegree in Microbiology or a related scientific discipline (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent)Minimum of 10 years' experience in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or life sciences laboratory environmentProven experience in a laboratory leadership or management roleStrong knowledge of GMP, microbiological testing, and laboratory quality systemsExcellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently while fostering a collaborative team environmentAdditional InformationThis is a permanent, site-based role in Ringaskiddy, CorkSGS offers a competitive, pharma-benchmarked salary and benefits package, including pension, healthcare, and paid annual leaveFlexible working arrangements may be available in line with business requirementsSGS is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
