Senior / Lead DevOps Engineer
Location: Ireland (Galway hybrid preferred; or remote within Ireland considered)
Overview
A growing technology company is seeking a Senior / Lead DevOps Engineer to take hands-on ownership of its platform infrastructure and deployment tooling. This is a senior individual contributor role with technical leadership responsibility, working closely with senior technical leadership on platform decisions.
The focus of the role is building, operating, and improving production systems - with an emphasis on reliability, observability, and operational simplicity.
Responsibilities
1. Own and operate Kubernetes-based environments across development, demo, and customer deployments
2. Improve reliability, performance, and upgradeability of existing infrastructure
3. Design and maintain deployment patterns suitable for bare-metal and air-gapped environments
4. Enhance CI/CD pipelines, developer workflows, and environment consistency
5. Implement and maintain observability (metrics, logs, tracing, alerting)
6. Debug production issues across application and infrastructure layers
7. Contribute to platform architecture decisions and operational standards
8. Document deployment patterns and operational practices
Requirements
Essential:
9. Strong, hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production
10. Experience supporting and upgrading long-lived systems
11. Proven ability to improve reliability and performance of distributed systems
12. Comfortable working with infrastructure-as-code and deployment tooling (. Helm, CI/CD)
13. Pragmatic, curious approach to problem-solving
Desirable:
14. Experience with bare-metal or air-gapped Kubernetes deployments
15. Observability tooling (. Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
16. Experience with search, analytics, or workflow platforms
17. Exposure to GPU or ML-adjacent infrastructure
18. Experience in non-hyperscaler environments
Working Style
19. Majority hands-on engineering (~75%)
20. Low-bureaucracy environment with close collaboration across engineering
21. Emphasis on operational stability, supportability, and predictable upgrades
