Overview of the Role
Act as Person in Charge in the absence of the Manager of Training Services. Write, plan, implement and evaluate programmes/learning modules in a variety of QQI training areas such as personal safety, personal care, technology use, visual art, food choice and health, relaxation techniques and health‑related exercise. Instruct on courses covering social development, personal care and community integration, with a focus on Art/Art & Design when possible. Support the Day Services Manager and instructors in delivering modules; maintain individual plans and ensure alignment with New Directions Interim Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Act as Person in Charge when the Manager is absent.
Provide direction and collaboration with colleagues.
Design, plan, and evaluate training modules across multiple QQI areas.
Instruct courses on personal care, social development, and community integration.
Update and review individual plans in line with standards.
Work constructively with service users with challenging behaviours and implement specific approaches.
Monitor progress with families, professional staff, and conduct case reviews.
Maintain accurate records and reports per policy.
Attend family meetings, staff meetings, and case reviews.
Supervise service users during break times and leisure activities.
Ensure safety standards and compliance with the Safety Statement.
Administer medication as required.
Participate in community activities and IT initiatives as appropriate.
Take part in training courses, both in‑house and external.
Work across Ability West centers as assigned.
Engage in planning, assessment, and verification activities for QQI.
Qualifications & Requirements

A Level 8 qualification in Teaching, Nursing, Social Care, Psychology, or Behaviour Analysis, or Level 7 relevant study and minimum four years’ experience with intellectual disability population.
Experience instructing in day centre programs.
Full, current driving licence.
Strong problem‑solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Motivated, energetic, enthusiastic personality.
Advocacy ability on behalf of service users.
Experience in training delivery of QQI.
Respect and empathy for diversity and individuality.
