Responsibilities
Ensure efficient running of the Unit, acting on behalf of the CNM2 when absent.
Report ill health among residents and arrange GP/professional visits.
Maintain individualised Care Plans with residents, relatives, and other Health Care Professionals, updated regularly per HIQA Standards.
Promote and encourage independence for residents.
Assess resident care needs and document accordingly.
Perform regular checks on residents and provide concise handover reports.
Administer prescribed medication in accordance with An Bord Altranais and regulatory requirements.
Maintain integrity in residents’ personal and financial affairs.
Participate in staff and resident meetings.
Maintain clear communication with residents, relatives, and multidisciplinary team.
Provide administrative support as required.
Ensure safety procedures comply with statutory obligations.
Observe, report, and take action on matters detrimental to care or wellbeing.
Assist with implementation of policies and procedures (e.g., health & safety, infection control, controlled drugs).
Complete incident/nearmiss/clinical risk reports.
Maintain equipment safety and cleanliness.
Support fundraising arrangements when required.
Notify Director of Nursing upon inability to report for duty or return from absence.
Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses (An Bord Altranais) or entitled to be so registered.
Minimum 1 year post‑registration experience, preferably caring for older persons.
Evidence of continuing professional development at appropriate level.
Effective communication skills at all levels.
Genuine interest in working with the relevant client group.
Satisfactory Garda Vetting.
Health & Safety
Report immediately to CNM2/ADON, Director of Nursing any illness or accident.
Implement Health and Safety, Emergency and Fire procedures.
Report faulty appliances, damaged furniture or hazards to Director of Nursing and Maintenance Manager.
Promote safe working practices.
Adhere to HSE/HIQA guidelines and maintain required logs and records.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
