Ecologist. A great opportunity to be responsible for providing ecology and biodiversity support and services to renewable energy projects and peatland rehabilitation programmes, promoting best practice, cost effectiveness, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities The main duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide general ecological support to the Planning Team on renewable energy projects. This includes: Baseline ecological surveys of cutaway bogs to contribute to ecology baseline datasets Informing ecological and environmental constraints for project design Updating site-specific rehabilitation plans for inclusion in Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) Reviewing design iterations and proposed mitigation and enhancement measures from an ecology and ornithology perspective Proactively supporting data management and the maintenance and development of internal databases Support the delivery of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) / Natura Impact Statements (NIS) for proposed developments, including: Liaison with third-party consultants on habitat mapping and ecological assessments Engagement with relevant stakeholders Review of technical reports and participation in project meetings Ongoing ecological data management Provide ecological expertise and support across a range of renewable energy projects, from site feasibility through to project inception and delivery. Develop and update site-specific EPA rehabilitation plans and contribute to peatland rehabilitation programmes, including: Stakeholder consultation and management Liaison with National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) staff Monitoring, verification, and ecological surveys (habitat, bird, and other specialist surveys) GIS mapping and ecological data analysis Supporting Appropriate Assessment screening and Natura Impact Statements Assisting with statutory and legal reporting requirements, including Annual Environmental Reports (AERs) Supporting communication and agreement of rehabilitation plans with regulatory authorities Support wider projects and assist in the delivery of the organisation's Biodiversity Action Plan, including: Engaging with internal stakeholders to raise awareness of biodiversity objectives Identifying and developing new initiatives to support biodiversity outcomes Keep up to date with changes in ecology and environmental legislation, policy decisions, and national, regional, and local development plans to: Inform business strategy Ensure compliance with planning and environmental requirements Maximise positive environmental outcomes Ensure all work carried out complies with Health & Safety and Environmental policies, as well as all relevant EU and national statutory requirements. Actively co-operate with all measures in place to protect the health, safety, and welfare of employees and members of the public Proactively participate in the performance management process to support the delivery of individual and team objectives.
