Job Description:

Locum Staff Grade (Grade II) Clinical or Counselling Psychologist required for Cork Prison.

Cork Prison is a closed, medium security prison for adult males. It is the committal prison for counties Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

The appointed Grade II Psychologist will support the Senior Psychologist and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to treat people referred to the IPS Psychology Service for issues such as:

* Mental health difficulties including Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Personality and Behaviour Disorders, complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Self-Harm and Suicidal Behaviour, Eating Disorders, Psychosis and Schizophrenia, Addiction.
* Offence-specific needs, including risk assessments, Parole Board reports, offence-related group and individual work, complex case consultation, and risk management.

The service also works with individuals presenting with developmental disorders, intellectual difficulties, cognitive decline, traumatic brain injuries, limited literacy, and diverse cultural backgrounds.

Prison-based Psychologists have contact with community agencies and work with families and carers. They may provide community interventions to support transitions from custody to community where appropriate.

The service supports the broader IPS organization through consultation, training, education, and research collaborations with universities. Placements are available for psychologists-in-training.

The IPS Psychology Service comprises a Head, Principal Psychologist, Senior Psychologists, Staff Grade Psychologists, and Assistant Psychologists, based at Arbour Hill Prison, Dublin 7. It operates nationally across all prisons, adhering to an integrated, bio-psycho-social, strengths-based, recovery-focused model aligned with RNR principles.

Essential qualifications include:

* Eligibility for graduate membership of PSI or BPS.
* Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology recognized by PSI (or equivalent recognized by the Irish Department of Health).

* Work with forensic or inpatient populations addressing emotional, mental health, or offence-related issues.
* Providing consultation, education, and support to multidisciplinary teams.
