Your impact
Jacobs is leading global energy transition. As our Irish team expands, we need a Principal Cable System Engineer to support high‑voltage projects such as AIS/GIS substations, transmission assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.
You will lead design delivery of Cable System Projects up to 400kV from tendering to handover.
Responsibilities
Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept and detailed design, design review, estimation, site supervision and support.
Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions, attending and conducting internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients and subcontractors.
Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath‑induced voltage calculations and others.
Perform design reviews and verification of design.
Ensure project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
Assist with temporary works design schemes.
Maintain good working relations with client, designer and supply chain.
Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction and formally request missing information to keep programme on time.
Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP/specification, including dimension accuracy and quality checks.
What you'll need
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
Extensive experience in a cable‑related role supporting FEED or detailed design.
Ability to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
Experience with CYMCAP for cable system design.
Experience working at EHV transmission voltages.
Experience designing HV and EHV cable systems for HVAC and HVDC systems.
