About Our Research
RCSI recognises that excellence in research is critical to the quality of its educational activities, its credibility, and, overall, to its mission to enhance human health.
RCSI's research strategy aims to build upon its strength in translational biomedical and clinical research to deliver transformational, high impact changes in health care.
Targeting both Irish national and EU funding, along with increased collaboration with industry, is a major part of the RCSI research strategy.
Forging increased collaboration between RCSI PIs and industry is of critical importance to achieving success in this area.

Summary of Post
The Research Assistant will support a project mapping global charitable and rugby union-based support for catastrophically injured rugby players on behalf of World Rugby.
The role involves conducting structured desk research, coordinating and delivering international telephone/video surveys, managing data and stakeholder directories, and contributing to analysis and reporting.
Working closely with the project's Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) panel, the post holder will help ensure that lived experience informs all stages of the study.
The Research Assistant will also gain experience supporting the Spinal Cord Repair Project PPI Panel supporting ongoing research with TERG.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
Conduct structured desk research to identify charities, unions, and support structures worldwide.
Develop and refine data collection tools in collaboration with the research team and PPI panel.
Carry out telephone and online surveys with international stakeholders, including charity leaders and union representatives.
Maintain an up-to-date stakeholder directory and accurate research records.
Manage data entry, cleaning, and preparation for descriptive analysis.
Apply the Five-Stage Maturity Matrix to assess organisational maturity.
Coordinate project meetings, including PPI panel sessions, and prepare supporting materials.
Assist with ethics documentation and project compliance requirements.
Track project milestones and contribute to progress reports.
Write analysis, report summaries, report sections, and materials for dissemination, including presentations to World Rugby.
Liaise professionally and sensitively with injured players, families, and representatives from charitable organisations.
Support dissemination activities such as conference submissions and publication preparation.
Qualifications – (Essential):
Primary degree (BA or BSc) in a science or humanities subject
Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):
Experience managing information accurately and systematically through academic, laboratory, or customer-facing research work.
Structured and systematic desk-based research skills
Practical experience analysing data using tools, with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people.
Data analysis and clear and concise reporting writing skills
Experience conducting structured tasks with precision (e.g. laboratory work, data processing).
Strong organisational skills developed through roles involving coordination, supervision, and multitasking.
Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams and contributing to a positive, collaborative environment.
Ability to manage confidential data or information professionally.
Skills in scientific writing and oral presentation, with the ability to summarise information clearly.
